Best Resource for treating sexually abused children!
This book is my go-to resource for activities to treat sexually abused children. I am an agency-based mental health counselor who has been treating this population for more than 10 years and this is still my favorite activity book. There are activities for use in individual, family, or group work. The book is also neatly divided by intervention focus and age group, so it is easy to find an activity to address a specific topic easily. The activities can also be easily modified to address other types of trauma as well. I recommend this book to anyone treating traumatized children.I also recommend the following books as well: Assessment and Treatment Activities for Children, Adolescents, and Families: Practitioners Share Their Most Effective Techniques Real Life Heroes: A Life Story Book for Children, Second Edition I Love You Rituals

A must for therapists working with children!
I have just started working with children with PTSD and was looking for a book that would be non-threatening yet informative, using exercises that would help a child deal with sexual abuse. I liked this book because there were exercises that could be used as games and follow the gamet from informing the child about sexual abuse to helping them deal with the abuse. Caregivers can be very nervous about a therapist delving into this topic also, and this is an easy resource to use when talking to parents.

This book is an amazing resource for any therapist treating children and/or adolescents
This book is an amazing resource for any therapist treating children and/or adolescents. I have been using this book for years and it is a go-to when working to incorporate an activity into any stage of trauma therapy. The activities also add some excitement for kids when they are addressing such complex trauma, allowing them to feel safe and both cognitively and emotionally heal from abuse.

Great workbook for therapists
I became familiar with this workbook when I was in graduate school studying to become a therapist. It was recommended to me by a Child Advocacy Center employee. I am now a licensed therapist and use the activities in this workbook often with young clients who have been sexually abused. Some of the activities seem to be more helpful than others, and they should only be used with a client whose abuse has been disclosed and substantiated. I have used the paper dolls activity the most, with kids of varying ages, and they seem to love it. Some of the activities are educational, and some are experiential and allow the client to release any negative thoughts and emotions. The activities can also be used with family members of the abused child. I recommend this book to anyone working with children and teens who have experienced sexual abuse.

If you work with children
When I was an intern it was scary thinking about meeting with my very first awesome kid that was overcoming a not so awesome thing.. Then a seasoned counselor handed me "Paper Dolls and Paper Airplanes" and told me to look for an activity based on the child's age. It was a wonderful first session and I can never thank Liana Lowenstein enough for her books. I have used this book over and over and the pages are wearing thin.. I highly recommend this book for anyone working with children that have overcome abuse.

Read it with DIVORCE POISON
This book came highly recommend by other therapists so I picked it up. Fabulous book. I would highly recommend reading this and "divorce poison". I learned a lot about ways to explore sexual abuse while countering with the possibility of parental "framing" another parent by reading theses two together.
