CD jewel case totally cracked!!
Being a completist of maestro Schifrin work, I ordered this CD trough Amazon since Aleph Records could not manage custom taxes. I own Warner edition, as well as the superb FSM (a must!). That said, the Aleph edition is good, better than the Warner one, but obviously not so good as the FSM one. When the disc finally arrived, the jewel case was totally shattered by all parts. Since I am expecting some two other discs, could you please use a more solid package? Thanks!

A real treat for my husband!
We have watched Bullitt more times than I care to confess...we BOTH love the chase scene...that prompted me to look for a CD of the music, and found this one, was thrilled to get it for my husband. He is enjoying it and the memories of the best car chase ever in a movie! I would suggest to anyone.

classic
The only question I have when listening to and writting about Lalo Schafrin is, can I sing his praises loud enough? Wonder why? Just check out this Bullit Score. In 1968, many composers--good ones, like Stanley Myers on No Way To Treat A Lady--were still using easy listening music in films. Not Master Schafrin. He had already done a fantastic country blues score for Cool Hand Luke, that was an geniune, real taste of the genre; not, as many soundtracks then were, a charactature of the music. On Bullit, he ups the antie twofold. The score is a driving, perpulsive jazz funk, as cutting edge as any, non-rock soundtrack of the era. The music is filled with popping, bluesy bass patterns, jazzy flute, and outstanding, smaple-worthy drumming. Like the film or not, the soundtrack is a funk masterpiece. This CD was not recorded in 1968, but in the 1990s. A band was hired to redo the entire score. I am not sure why, but the audio is modern, and much thicker than it was on the 1968 soundtrack.I have read complaints about this score, particularly the heavy bass and an overall unbalanced matering job. True, the bass is a little overbaring. (Being a bass player, I am biased and kind of like this flaw)But the production is warm and organic and huge. It fills the room and has a soundstage like eccho: this recording is not--whether you like it or don't--a victim of sterile, modern digital recording.Regardless, the music itself cannot be beat. You have to own this.

A great, overlooked soundtrack from the '60s.
This was one of my favorite albums to listen to all the way through on You Tube, but I think it's since been removed :) I'd tend to believe that most listeners would list "Shifting Gears" as their favorite song from the soundtrack because of the car chase scene in the film, but I would say it's my 3rd favorite. My 2nd favorite is "On The Way To San Mateo," which is a pretty sharp name for a song. I like this one because of the driving beat of the song and the flute playing along with the horn(s)/bass/guitar/strings/drums/conga & or bongo rhythm section. My favorite song to list to is "The Aftermath of Love" because it has such a mellow and smooth vibe to it. I believe that is a flugelhorn, which is the featured instrument and the playing is stellar. A great soundtrack by a artist/conductor who should be recognized more for his music contributions to television shows and films.

There is a better CD
Bullitt the movie was released in 1968. The original soundtrack vinyl LP record has 12 songs. The original soundtrack CD was released in 1998. It has 12 songs and can be found here:Β Bullitt The Film Score Monthly CD was released in 2013. It has 31 songs (12 with similar titles). It has the same 12 songs on the 1998 CD. The FSM CD also includes the songs exactly as they appeared in the movie plus some extras. The FSM CD can be found here:Β FSM Bullitt THIS CD was release in 2017. It is a re-recording performed by the WDR Big Band (a great band !). This CD has 18 songs (4 with similar titles). The WDR Big Band musicians may have had the original music charts, but the performances are different than what appeared in the film. And the more I listen to THIS CD, the more I notice those differences. If you have never seen the film, or if your musical memory isn't very good, then you will probably be satisfied with this CD. Otherwise, my recommendation is to get the Film Score Monthly CDΒ FSM Bullitt .

RIVITING MOVIE SCORE
I have been looking for this soundtrack for awhile now but I wanted the original soundtrack recording not a reworked version. Well, this release fits the bill nicely. What you have here is both the re-recording and the original soundtrack as is heard when you view the movie. The re-recording is o.k. but nothing beats the original tracks . Starting at selection #13 onwards you have all the real sounds that emanated from the opening sequence to the end credits. You even have the tune that played on the radio in the room at the hotel Daniels. What a masterful job Lalo Schifrin did with this movie score. No wonder he had a dynamite career in Hollywood for many years. In addition, the booklet is a treasure trove of information about every aspect of the film including the conception by Lalo Schifrin of the fabulous music used in the movie. If you like the movie you will love the soundtrack.John Walsh

A Great Gem
It's hard not to like movie scores composed by Lalo Schifrin. Who can forget the "Mission: Impossible" and "Enter The Dragon" themes. Every piece Lalo composed as a theme is a standout and unforgettable. The theme for "Bullitt" is no exception.Better still, the songs (at least the majority) on this soundtrack are the same versions found in the movie. This is not often the case.Surprisingly, the sound quality is also good enough to sound as though it was recorded just yesterday. The bass is deep and full while the highs are extended and airy. The overall dynamic range (difference in volume between the softest and loudest passages) is also much greater than what you hear when watching the movie. And this soundtrack was recorded back in 1968! Once you listen, you'll know exactly what I mean. You are guaranteed to feel the emotion of each track.Well done!

Cool..
Great musical action and great value two versions of the music score one version hardcore from the movie and then another more musical version almost a double album some great jazz and funk elements and brass big band pieces a real sample of the jazz edge of Lalo Scifrin at this time, main theme song my stand out track really sounds magnificent and super cool if you love the movie or good music this is a great buy.
