The Dance of Fear: Rising Above Anxiety, Fear, and Shame to Be Your Best and Bravest Self

Fear Jerker
I picked up this book after agreeing to go skydiving which is something I said I would never do. I became curious about my various fears and the thought that I would jump from a plane but I allow fear and shame to stop me from being my best in other ways. So, I skydived and it was an incredible experience. I also discovered that I felt fear and shame about reconnecting with people I love that I've lost touch with. I feared their response and felt shame about how much time had passed. This read was the perfect nudge to get out of my head and rise above fear.

Real & Readable
This author puts herself out there and lets the reader know that she too experiences real fear - but there are ways to overcome that fear and anxiety . The book is a very fast read, with practical tips and suggestions, and humor. Yet, she is upfront in saying that there is no quick "cure" or fix for fear in one's life. The way out of fear has to be facing your fears and doing it scared! For anyone struggling with fear or anxiety, this is worth reading as a motivation to look at the area deeper and to at least begin the journey of dealing with fear in your life. For some, it will give you the courage to take more steps in overcoming fear in certain areas of your life.

I have bought three times.
Hello Viewers of the book!If you are in a place of "Not Sure" and looking to grab this book, than I recommend to grab it.I first read it when I was being bullied at work place by the whole team. The book really gave me the weapons, or tools to recognise what I needed to in my fellow work "bull dogs" and my self to get through every day. It really worked for me so much I leant it so some one who didn't give it back so I bought another and gave one to a friend who needed guidance to. This is a "give you strength book"I love Harriet Learner has a way of writing that you can't even feel the pages turning, you just get to the end.Simple and to the pointThank you Ms Learner. And I hope this helps the viewer!Cheers!Jodie Lear

good solid Harriet Lerner
I read this book after having read The Dance of Intimacy several months ago. The Dance of Intimacy was like a huge wake-up call for me, whereas this book was very interesting and helpful, just not as earth-shattering. I am generally an anxious person, and I did learn a little bit about living with my anxiety and not making it worse. But I didn't connect with all the stories the way I did with the previous Lerner book I read. I still think Harriet Lerner is an amazing insightful woman. I'm glad that I read and bought this book, but maybe my expectations were a little too high. I would give the book 3 1/2 stars if I could.

Good summary
While my specific fear was not addressed in much detail, I gained lots of insight about fear. I can use the anecdotes to read into my own situation. As with all issues if this sort, things usually work out better with a therapist to help you figure it out. Love all Lerner's books.

Loved it and finished it quickly
This book was helpful and real. I like how she gets down to my level and shares stories with understanding, rather than preaching about how to get rid of anxiety. It's also a fast read. Probably going to read it a few times

Recommended by Dr. Read the sample chapters. My First Kindle Purchase
Recommend by my doctor. Great tips for dealing with fear that triggers a depressive episode. No exercises except by example in the narrative. Read the first two chapters in the sample download. The rest of the book is less vanilla than chapter two and discuses tougher cases. Most of the cases are gender generic, but a few are more directed to females. I am male and still found the book informative and helpful. An honest book that does not promise to heal you overnight by reading it.

Straight forward common sense, makes everything clear
I read her book A Dance of Anger 34 years ago - I think, and this book is just as valuable in the "saved my soul" kind of way LOL. Seriously, it's common sense straight forward talking, no jibber-jabber psycho-babble, it''s obviously psychology but in a laymens term construct, so it's easy to digest. For those that are not seriously mentally ill, this should clear up a lot of what ails you.
