This is definitely not a light or easy read.It is very informative and worth it if you can go through the book more than once. The book does address the 'stages' of life superficially, but since the focus really is on childhood that is to be expected. This was a good buy.

excellent for understanding Erikson more in depth
Childhood and Society, in its first edition, was Erik H. Erikson's first book. The second edition, which I read pieces of for a project, incorporates more of the ideas he had after some significant historical events took place. Erikson heavily considers context and culture in the development of the ego or identity, which is the main focus of this book. It also has his own description of the Eight Stages of Man for which he is famous. Erikson's writing is at times vague and hard to follow, but this book is a must read for anyone wanting to understand more completely Erikson's earlier theories.

Childhood to Adult
Childhood and Society reveals the relationship of the child and the Society we live in. To some degree, society has been formed by Children. When do we say that we are adults? Is it age by years or years by Intellect? How may people have been raised by other children because mom and dad were working? We are getting a society of Adult Children. Read Childhood and Society for answers to why we think the way we do...

Great Quality and a Good Read
This one is very good quality and a good read, the text is big enough so that it is approachable and its not thick and daunting like some others. This is a classic read, go for it!

Erikson's child development papers - great for school/child development professionals if you need background pieces
I needed Erikson's original works for my doctoral dissertation - this was by far the best (and cheapest) way to get at them!

GREAT SERIES OF BOOKS--READ THEM ALL
I read all the Biographies of the Presidents by way of the Presidential series. If you are going to do it, read John Hancock first because he was the first Continental Congress President. You will find as you read these how the lives of each President intertwined with the next. The job is a lineage.

Still as relevant today
Written in 1950, this work has stood the test of time. Erik Erikson's developmental theory is easily accessible to both the professional and layperson. His writing gets across difficult tensions that we all encounter during the process of growing up. Having worked in special schools and a therapeutic community, I have come across many individuals who have been stuck at early stages of development, exhibiting trust or autonomy issues. This book lays out 8 stages showing the ideal and the likely issues encountered. Highly recommended.

The classic work of Erikson wherein he introduced the 8 stages of human life cycle.
Excellent book as it comes from the renowned author-theorist of the psychosocial theory of human development. Before his death, Erikson pondered upon expanding the life cycle beyond the 8 stages and wanted to include a 9th stage. Before completing that task he passed away. But his wife Joan materialised it in "Life Cycle Completed. I recommend reading both books.
