Great Tire for mtb/gravel
Great Cornering on 700x50 front and 700x45 rear. Does well in mud and soft sand, plenty fast on road.

Awesome Tire
I replaced some heavy touring tires on my gravel bike and it feels like a new bike! These are nimble and grippy and worth the money. I often ride in loose rocky rubbly terrain and sometimes wish I'd gotten the wider version, but for hardpack and mixed terrain they're perfect. I'm in Phoenix and have never had the opportunity to ride through mud with them.

Good gravel grinder
These replaced some Vitoria gravel tires that were not wearing well at all and ultimately failed. These tires are well made, mph Ted well, and perform well on gravel roads. They have a more aggressive tread pattern than the tires they replaced. They may have slightly higher rolling resistance due to the tread pattern, but the gravel performance increase is well worth the very small penalty in rolling resistance.

Excellent
I love these tires and will be getting another set as these are about to be worn out after many miles. I usually run tubes and they have held up wonderfully in rough gravel races in Arkansas at Rule of 3 and Big Sugar. No flats in either event as others had some and were running tubeless. They handle really well on chunky rocks and on single track that is not too technical (other variables there such as my handling and bike set up). I would go wider if my bike had the tire clearance. Excellent tire!

These are not the tan wall as pictured
This isn't so much a review of the product as it is a review of the advertising. The pictured tire is tan wall but what you receive is the black side wall tire. Not a deal breaker as it is a good tire just not what is pictured and not what you think you ordered. On a side note these are incredibly difficult to inflate and seat tubeless. Even with a compressor.

Lightweight tire, great for hybrid use
Mounted to my 2020 Epic hardtail front and rear. Works great for gravel trails and even some rocky trail riding. Most appreciate being able to hold reasonable speed when on tar.

better up front tire
I run these tubeless, 45c up front 40c in the back, usually 45+/- psi slightly higher when i was 220+. In three years ive had 2 irreparable rear wheel bead failures and a bunch of random punctures. Maxxis warrantied one of the bead failures, i didn't realize it was covered or i would have warrantied the first bead failure. These set up tubeless with the help of Airshot Tubeless Tire Inflator; i coulnt get the tires to seat with out it. both Stans and Orange seal work well with the random small punctures that seem to happen often. I eventually put a panaracer GK on the rear, which feels more robust than the rambler. the rambler stayed up front for a year. It wasnt bad. Ive since switched to a Continental terra-trail up front.

Application specific
These days tires are debut and reviewed on sites at every turn. Which leads to an endless collection of Amazon reviews that have to be vetted (the classic ‘I ride 2 miles a week, these are awesome…’)So what’s answer. Without giving away Maxxis’s secret sauce, they design tires based on application - one, maybe two conditions where a tire will excel (true for mountain, as well as cross or road or gravel). As the example of the rambler, they do one or two things AMAZINGLY well. Loose over hard (eg. Southern California). Sand crushed limestone, no wet conditions or mud.I’m just slightly biased towards maxxis, but for what they’re designed for, I don’t think you’ll find a better tire. If you’re throwing them on an ebike and are ‘slashing’ a walking trail than mileage will definitely vary. Or riding only on pavement, they’re gone feel slow. But. Here in San Diego, where the roads are garbage, and the trails are powder dry, they are amazing

Not tubeless
Not possible to set up as tubeless, two different bike mechanics tried to set them up, they simply just don’t hold the pressure, perhaps old stock

Pneu Rambler

Alles super!
