High Contrast - Virtually No Scatter or Glare
Vehicle: 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis with fog lamps (H13 headlamp, 9145 fog lamp)I had read from other reviewers on Amazon [among other sources] that these headlights really provide nothing more than that of the Sylvania Silverstar Ultra platform. While I agree with most reviewers that the advertisement of the zXe's is misguided ("the halogen equivalent of HID Xenon"), the light of the actual bulb appears brighter than any factory bulb - old or new. I ran a road visibility test with the baseline Phillips H13, the Silverstar Ultra H13, and the zXe. By a longshot, the zXe provided the best contrast downroad, but not necessarily the brightest light. That isn't to mean that the zXe's are a ripoff or not worth the money - they most definitely are, provided they last a year or more as advertised. The biggest difference in these over the Silverstar Ultras or the stock bulbs is that they offer the widest spread, effectively utilizing the reflectors in your headlamp housing, rather than creating lots of glare like in the Silverstar Ultras. Even in the rain or fog, these lights do not seem to cause that much scatter - which to me, is rather odd. I'm not sure entirely how these lights pull that off, but they do. Over stock bulbs, these allow you to see more of the sides of the road, further down the road and with the highest contrast that a halogen could offer. You'd be hard pressed to find an HID or LED conversion kit that provides this kind of lighting, especially at a price that is strikingly competitive to ballast kits and conversion upgrade kits (all of which are not DOT certified)One quirk that I must report for anyone considering the zXe's is that the initial use of these bulbs in my car seemed rather dim - after a day or two of driving in the dark, they became significantly brighter - at least 4-5x brighter. I'm not aware of a break-in period, but it would be helpful to know if there is.

Pleasantly Surprised....
Was shopping for new 9007 headlight bulbs for my 2011 Nissan Pathfinder. Had already been using the SilverStar Ultra bulbs with no problems. My field of view while driving was very good. They're still working fine but they do not give off a "White" light. They are definitely in the "yellow" spectrum. Was doing a bit of research and came across the Sylvania zXe bulbs. On Amazon the reviews were mixed but I took a chance anyway. I have to be honest, the zXe's ABSOLUTELY do give off a "White" light. While changing the bulbs I had the drivers side headlight with the Ultra's & the passenger side headlight with the zXe's to see if there was a difference. It was noticeably different. I could not detect any "yellow" tint from the zXe bulb whatsoever. Brightness seems to be good. Will need to do more night-time driving to make sure. I say this because I thought I detected a teeny bit of light loss in my field of view while driving around. I'll update later on just to be sure. Remember, they are not HID's. If you want to eliminate the "yellowish" look of your current bulbs, my opinion is that these zXe's will do the trick. How long will they last? That remains to be seen. If they die out on me prematurely, I'll be sure to let you know. As for the mixed reviews here at Amazon, I think it all depends on which vehicle you apply these to. It may not look right on older cars possibly due to the reflector arrangement in the headlight assembly. If you notice, the headlight assembly in newer vehicles seem to have a more aggressive reflector pattern. These are just some of the things to keep in mind if you're shopping around for bulbs. Bottom line: I'm pleasantly surprised & very happy with the bulbs. Could they cost a bit less?? Sure they can! Everything nowadays should be less expensive but that's an entirely different issue. BTW, I rated these bulbs 4 out of 5 stars just because of the cost. They really should be less expensive.Reminder: Please wear latex gloves when changing your bulbs. If you touch the glass area of the bulb with your bare hands, the natural oils from your skin will ruin the bulb and may cause it to die out prematurely making your purchase way too expensive. Enjoy & take care.9/24/12 UPDATE: On my suspicions that there might be some loss of light, I found it to be negative. The appearance of light loss only came into play when driving in a very well lit area. I tested this issue by re-installing the SilverStar Ultra bulbs and even went as far as re-installing the OEM bulbs. In my opinion, the Sylvania zXe bulbs still performed best. Just wanted to let you know. Take care.12/8/13 UPDATE: Sylvania zXe's are still burning strong. Also, on many occasions I've been getting oncoming drivers flashing their high-beams at me as we pass each other. Apparently this is proof that the zXe's are extremely bright because oncoming drivers think I have my high-beams on when I don't. I've had to flash them back to say like... hey man.. I'm low-beaming here.I've never experienced this phenomenon with the OEM's or the Ultra's. Except for the occasional good buddy warning me of Law Enforcement in the area. Just wanted to keep you guys & gals informed. Take care.5/27/14 UPDATE: Well it finally happened. One of the bulbs pooped out on me so you know what that means. Time for replacements. I installed the old OEM's temporarily and boy let me tell you, I don't miss that hideous yellow tint. Ugly as hell. So I'm doing my research for my next set of bulbs. I'll let you know which ones I choose. Who knows, I may just buy these zXe's again. Catch you later.

My second set
I really like these lights. Installed on a Mercedes W204, I agree with the ad copy that they give off a little more "attitude" than stock lights. Main thing to know is that they are a whiter light than stock, so if you have any other lights on the front (in my case, there are smaller lights over the main headlamps) you may want to swap everything out so you don't have color mismatches.Yes, I worry about those things.Anyway, design is exactly H7 here and fits precisely. Light quality is really rather good - they aren't going to be mistaken for the lights in a football stadium, but certainly very appropriate for night driving with better illumination (in my opinion) than stock. Now for longevity. I get about a year out of them. Frankly, for me this is a non-issue, since the lights are very easy to swap and the price is certainly approachable. I stop short of calling these "high performance" but I do think they perform better than stock and give a whiter, almost LED-like light. These will NOT be mistaken for true LED though, but for applications (like mine) where one doesn't want to bother with an all-out conversion these are certainly reasonable substitutes. This is my second set of these and I have zero problem using these lights going forward.
