Shirasaya KatanaThe long blade has beautiful folded steel forged from 1060 and 9250 carbon steels. There are about 25 layers of steel producing a more durable blade. The edge is compacted producing a very hard edge called hamon with a *66 HRC. The handle has two bamboo pegs securing it to the blade tang which is 9" long. The wood is a light colored hardwood with semi-gloss clear lacquer finish for protection. Both the handle and scabbard have a black synthetic band at the openings to prevent wood from splitting at that area.
