I wanted something that would cast light down onto my book or my work. This has three arms that I thought had the light on the underside, but nope- they're on the outside, so you can point them (individually) to shine upward for area light, or hang it from the ceiling and close it up to make a (very) bright cylinder of light, but you can't set it on the desk or table and light your workspace without being blinded. It would work well if closed into a bright cylinder and hung from the ceiling, but that's not an option for me.On the plus side, it does function as a flashlight and a flasher, in various modes. Would be very handy if you were trapped under rubble or in the wilderness, and heard rescuers nearby.I recommend this for camping or emergency evacuation gear, not for home use in a power failure.

This has turned out to be a useful work light for my husband. He has taken into cramped spaces on our attic to install insulation and appreciated the light quality, ease of carrying and the ability to focus the light in various ways. It would be nice if it’s battery lasted longer, but that would probably make it larger and heavier.We also feel it will be a good emergency light for power outages and a camping light.
