Useful tool but accuracy seems only approx.
It goes without saying that it is very useful to check the paint thickness of your current day cars before and after detailing them. Many cars like Nissans come with relatively thin paints. I bought this gage for that purpose. It provides me with an approximate thickness reading. What annoys me is that readings vary a lot (in terms of mil) when tested on the same spot at different times without doing any detail work over the spot. Also, if the panel is even slightly warmer(not really hot), the reading changes widely. For the price I paid, I had expected a more accurate instrument. May be I got a defective unit but I can't tell for sure unless I compare it with another unit.
