I've had problems with plantar fasciitis and need some extra arch support, with a firm but not hard heel area. These orthotics are perfect and can be moulded to fit your feet with a hot air gun (instructions included). The first pair were fitted by an osteopath, but I have bought three more to avoid moving them between shoes and boots. One pair have now covered around 3000 miles and haven't deteriorated, so I can fully recommend them subject to the following. They seem to suit fairly high-volume footwear with a reasonably stiff sole (mine are in walking boots and heavy-duty outdoor shoes), and it is probably worth checking with a foot specialist before buying.

Designed by podiatrist Dr Howard Dananberg, and based on the sagittal plane theory, that mainly focuses on promoting efficient and effective forward movement of the foot: primarily by enabling the normal, unrestricted forward "rocking" movement of the heel, ankle joint , and the big toe joint (1st metatarsophalangeal joint). There is a cushioning area under the heel and a removable section below the big toe joint to enable it to bend more fully during walking and running. There is also support below the inner heel bone and the arch. Given that foot types and foot problems differ, these orthotics will not be for everyone but I have definitely found them helpful.
