Amazing Product
I love this thing it produces a huge amount of sparks. One side of the striker has a saw like surface the other side is flat. I'm guessing you use the saw like surface to scrape off magnesium into your tender and the flat side to send a shower of sparks. If I hit it with the flat side i get some intense sparks but if I hit it with the saw side I get barely any sparks. The only thing I would add to this is some kind of snap case or buckle. Other than that its perfect.

Plastic is easily detachable from the Rod But Works.NOT MILITARY GRADE(w/e that means ...)
It did the job but didn't come with instructions therefore I had to look up online and find out that you are supposed to concoct a pile of Magnesium powder. The red piece that connected to the magnesium fire starter disconnected from one another under low pressure. I am going to try to get a more "lifeproof" one. I believe that they should increase the red handle length by 3-4 inches where it makes it easier to shave and strike the rods. If customer support pulls through well enough then I will consider adding another star. Overall a good Fire starter, I would not say its "military grade" as the red string that holds it together also broke (along with the red plastic connecting with the magnesium rod).

I am very confused by this product. I have not used mine yet, but the intructions included are absolutely useless. Every video I've watched ends with people not being able to get a flame. The most confusing part to me is that they make absolutely NO explanation of why one side of the striker is serrated. Granted, I could easily go online to a different company, who sells cheaper products, but who will probably offer an explanation where Pernix has not.... but... then why am I not paying THAT company for their extra work? All in all... other similar products would have been a better buy, because even the best product means nothing if you're expecting every customer to be an expert.... plus, this is on the higher end when it comes to price for this style of starter.

Light Weight and Easy to Use
This is a handy little tool that is great for scouting and/or camping. It measures approximately 3 1/2 inches long, the handle is 1 1/2 inches and the magnesium rod is about two inches. It is easy to use and produces hot sparks to start a fire.

Worth your money
I got it for my boyfriend and he took it with us when we went camping, it took a couple strikes to get it started but it works :).

Not terribly impressed so far. Tried it several times before I take out camping. A bit Iffy.
