This is an excellent product! However
This is an excellent product! However, let me explain that I'm not a welder (cannot even solder very well). I purchased this blanket to spread in front of my fire place, to protect the wall-to-wall carpeting in front of said fire place. As the reader may know, the use of a screen or glass doors in front of a roaring fire, to prevent hot coals from causing damage or starting an unwanted fire, greatly reduces the heat radiated into the room. But, with this blanket in place, hot coals bounce out onto the fabric, glow harmlessly into dark oblivion, and leave no trace. Meanwhile, I can enjoy the full heat produced from the fire.

Be advised, the actual size is 5'-8" X 7'-8"
Be advised that the blanket is not 6' X 8'. The actual size is 5'-8" X 7'-8", which is clearly stated on the package I received. However, it is not stated anywhere on Amazon which would inform a buyer about this known fact. Perhaps the 4" is not a big deal for most applications, but that should be for the buyer to decide, given the information. It was a big deal for my application, for which there was insufficient time to return/exchange, so I had to scramble and sew in a small section with kevlar thread. I do take some blame though since I'm not using it as a welding blanket in the first place. The product appears to be well manufactured, and is relatively heavy gauge.

good medium duty blanket
Am please with this welding blanket. I use a 120 volt Lincoln wire feed, good for 1/4 inch steel. Only gave 4 stars because when welding within 6 inches or so some spatter burned through the blanket. Now that I know, I use it doubled when welding in close proximity, and have not had any issues. It's a trade off, a heavier blanket will provide more protection, but sacrifices pliability. And as large as this blanket is, there is plenty of material even folded for most medium duty jobs.

great purchase
Have no idea how guys burn through this? 220voIt gas MIG. use it as flooring under my welding table, and under the trailer I just built. Either I'm dam good (unlikely, I'm a musician) or those guys are within inches or using a more intense setup--plasma?Does stain if you look at it wrong!

welding blanket
Nice big blanket. I just wish it was a bit thicker, as it will get holes burnt through it. I place another blanket under it when I am welding so it doesn't go all the way through. It is ok for money, just wish it was a bit thicker.

suitable for light slag
These probably work pretty well if you are TIG welding but may struggle to protect things from heavy slag. I used this to protect against rocket exhaust from an O class rocket motor and it had a 4 foot diameter hole in the middle like someone threw a baseball through a wet paper towel. They don't really advertise it is suited for that though...

Nice quality
This is a really nice, thick fiberglass blanket. It is brass grommeted all the way around, and has a folded edge. I use it to stop mig spatter at the back of my steel table. It's a bit more expensive than some other ones I've seen, but I'm more than satisfied with it.

Great long lasting mat
Great product. I used it for a curtain in my house when the old one broke because I don’t weld anymore.
