THE go-to book for rigid heddle weavers
This is the best resource book around, for either beginner or experienced rigid heddle weavers.I highly recommend that you make some samplers, starting with the weft floats and warp floats in Chapter 3. The next sampler I'm planning is the lace weaves in Chapter 2.When planning your sampler warps with light and dark yarns, it's a good idea to make them 1/3 light, 1/3 alternating light and dark, and 1/3 dark, to get the full effects of the different patterns.Alternatively, you can just have fun flipping through the pages for ideas, and jumping into your projects!

A Must Have For All RHL Weavers!!
This book has been on my wish list for what seems like forever! I finally broke down and bought it. It has never came down much on price since the date of release-2010-and with good reason. It is well worth the money paid, and will be one in my Crafting Reference library that I can see myself picking back to time and time again. Not only for the projects, but for the immeasurable amount of knowledge the author includes. But than again, I don’t think I’ve ever purchased a book published by Interweave that wasn’t in that category. What this book allows you to expand your weaving skills to on an RHL is another reason this book deserves such a high rating. Not all of us have the space, the money, or the time, to use a full on treadle loom-although I do own one of those too. Weaving, just like all the other fiber arts, is a highly addictive rabbit hole to fall down. 😉At least with spinning, knitting, and acquisitions of more stash yarn and fiber than I can work with in a lifetime, this little book will lead me closer to slowly moving it along!!If you haven’t purchased the kit to add the additional heddle to your RHL, I highly recommend that as well.

Go for the Spiral-Bound Format
I have this book both in Kindle and spiral bound formats. The content is the same in both formats and well reviewed by others. As a weaver with intermediate experience on a rigid heddle loom, I find this book thorough and inspiring, and it's my go-to, most-often-used-by-far weaving book. Well done, Jane Patrick! My review focuses on the format differences. My first purchase (January 2014) was the Kindle format. It's a lot cheaper, and the idea of keeping my books in the cloud appeals to me in general. I particularly like the ability to click and zoom in on photos, but when I do, I can only see the photo... not the instructions. I have some favorites that I enjoy weaving with different yarns, colors, setts, etc., and though they are bookmarked, I find I have to do a lot of flipping through to find them. The power-saving Kindle feature often powers down the display when I am in the middle of following the instructions... frustrating.Given the extensive use I get from this book, I decided to order the spiral bound format as well (January 2015). LOVE IT! I had no idea what I was missing with the Kindle format. The layout of multiple photos on a two-page spread allows me to compare variations and see full projects. The photos are large enough for me not to miss the zoom capability, and they are vividly colorful. I also understand more clearly when I can see the photo and description side-by-side, which was more challenging with the shorter single pages and smaller photo size format in the Kindle edition. I have added physical bookmarks to my favorites, so no more searching. The spiral-bound format stays open without a fuss for as long as I need it.Whether you're just starting out or have lots of weaving experience, this book is a keeper you're likely to use often for guidance and inspiration. The spiral-bound format is well-worth the cost difference.

Excellent book for unique woven designs!
I bought a used copy for a few bucks less than new and it looks brand new. I have had it for a few weeks now and love some of things I have learned from the book. I am trying the most basic things such as a warp floats and a brooks bouquet. I just did those and then turned my weave into a cute jumper shirt by simply piecing together my fabric I made in different ways. Love the effect the patterns make in the fabric. I am still unsure of how to read the patterns but am learning more every day. Weaving is about the most therapeutic thing I have ever done and I sew like daily. Definitely worth the $ on this book. Also to note, for me personally, I cannot stand looking at the tablet screen to read info type of books. If you are like that at all, I do not recommend the Kindle version. I tried the Kindle version of Inventive weaving on a little loom, bc it was free to read at the time and its not very easy for me to read the instructions for patterns. I do like that book also though and I think I will buy that book in a hard copy as well.

Great inspiration for beginners and more
As a beginning weaver during Covid, I'm struggling to figure out how to get started weaving. This book is the best I've found so far, making things seem not so complex and bewildering. Ideally, a good teacher is what I need but I have a compromised immune system so am really staying away from people. I recommend this book to everybody who wants to understand the basics of weaving and get inspired to make beautiful, yet simple fabrics.

Excellent book for learning what you can do with a rigid heddle loom
Clear instructions. Amazing techniques with great illustrations to whet your appetite. I would not be without this book. This is one of a pair of books that you really need if you are teaching yourself how to use a rigid heddle loom. The other in Inventive Weaving on a little Loom. That one covers the basic "how to's" . This one covers all sorts of patterns and fabric in more depth that you can create with 1, 2 or 3 heddles. So it covers that aspect in more detail. This one covers double width and double weaving too.The instructions are very clear as are the beautiful colour illustrations. Spiral bound so it can sit by your loom as you follow it. I am working my way through this, putting my loom through it's paces and finessing my basic weaving techniques. Yes I will probably move onto a shaft loom at some point, but not yet, and there are things you can do with these simple looms that are impossible on more complex looms. I can't see my parting from my rhl loom or these books. If you are trying out weaving, as I have been doing, then this and the other book are the best places to start.

making my fingers itch
I'm smittten with this book. i have the kindle edition which hasnt given me the best pictoial experience but in a way has focused me more on understanding whats written . I'm not as slick with weaving terminology as I am with knitting but this book has demistified a lot of it and i feel like the learning is progressive rather than a great, drowning, wash of facts. Ive put a mental paperclip on the double heddle chapter though. i need a lot more experience before I try that.i promised myself when i started weaving that i would sample sample sample but that life was too short for coasters and teatowels. This book has equiped me to make fabric. Thank you

Definite must for any weaving bookshelf
Good text book; clear pictures and generally easy to follow. I'm new to weaving, so I needed something that would give me ideas on what could be achieved. Love the spiral binding and on the whole, techniques are explained clearly. As it's title suggests, it's a book of ideas rather than a 'how to weave' book. Goes into great detail of how subtles differences can be achieved just by simple changes to the drafting order. Covers major topics such as pick up sticks and double weave. I did find the explanation of weaving draft charts difficult to follow - I have worked it out now, but it was not easy as rigid heddles don't have 4 shafts so the 'tie-up' grid bamboozled me at first.

This is a gem!
If you are just starting out with rigid-heddle weaving, or if you have been weaving for a while and are looking for more creative ideas, this is the book for you. I've looked at quite a few books on rigid-heddle weaving and got more than frustrated with authors' assumptions that I already knew things that I didn't. Jane Patrick makes everything seem do-able. Written in plain language with plenty of colour photos and clear instructions I almost jumped for joy when I first paged through it. I had bought Hands on Rigid Heddle Weaving by Betty Linn Davenport when I first started weaving. This is a priceless book to have if you are just learning how to weave. Combined with Jane Patrick's book, The Weaver's Idea Book, you really have all you need to get started and to progress in your weaving. This is really a brilliant book and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

the weaver's idea book
This book is jam packed with images and clear simple instructions on how to achieve what appear to be complicated patterns and designs. As a beginner I thought I would be overwhelmed by the complexity of all these amazing patterns. However on inspection of this book and the detail offered in teaching how to re create these patterns, I was able to see how each is achieved with patience and focus. The steps are clear and the instructions coupled with images and patterns. The author is generous in her sharing of ideas and imagination. This book illustrates how diverse the achievements can be on a Rigid Heddle Loom. I recommend this to book wholeheartedly. A wonderful book.
