Optical Calcite (Iceland Spar) Mineral Rock Approx. 5/8-1 Inch - 2 Pieces w Info Card

I purchased this item to help teach my grandson about the Vikings and how they were able to navigate across the ocean. He as very interested and set of on his own research and now we better communication and shared learning experiences.

Too cloudy to use for teaching. It's a piece of calcite, for Pete's sake, for the price, it should have been better quality.

not as good as I hoped, but then again, this was a cheap price, came with a larger (3/4" x 3/4''x 1") and a thinner one (approx 3/16" thick), but the larger one somewhat demonstrates the effect. Not as a 'viking sunstone' as I'd hoped. Fast delivery . Can't really complain, as the clear ones are $20+.

Far from optically clear, full of inclusions, does not split the light in to two images, or so non transparent you cant' distinguish the second image.. I figured there'd be some variation so i ordered 5 in hopes of getting one good one. Nope no good ones. ) out of 5 success rate. If you want this to go in a box as a mineral sample, it's probably fine, if you want to use it for anything else, don't' bother.

Not bigt it works. Another thing to remember is you may not get anything as clear as in the picture, it is a natural product.The crystal can chip or split if you drop it. Just what I wanted- No problem at all. Beautiful piece, arrived on time.

I must commend the seller on their speed of delivery, as it took approximately 3 business days to recieve it. But, the quality of the minerals are quite poor. I bought three, and only two were usable as 'optical' calcite. One was not only somewhat disfigured, but cloudy through at least 50% of it's figure. The other two, though usable, were quite off colored and still of very low quality.
