There is a good mystery here
This deserves the high rating. There is a good mystery here. A weirdo dressed in hospital clothing breaks into a home and says he is there to protect a pregnant woman.......who does not know him. Everyone thinks he is paranoid. A killer is on the loose. The woman has her baby and all is well until..........And that is just the first fifth of the book. So, there are a lot of interesting people in on the investigation. The author takes her time to draw each one of them out with dialogue and description. The book is well written and not filled with clunky sentences, bad descriptions and cliched dialogue. You will be drawn into the book is you like a mystery and a little action and a bunch of likable people.I think the group of people she assembles here is more interesting and likable than the Preston and Child's characters. If you are new to the author and are the kind of person who might get into reading the whole series, I would recommend starting earlier. If you are looking for a one-off summer fun read, then no problem starting here. You will not be at a loss for anything if you begin with this one.The last few pages are a bit forced, as suddenly everyone involved in the case sits around discusses the potential abuse of DNA and how companies or government might misuse such information. Seems like the author just tacked this on to lecture us a bit. This is not a deal breaker as far as the novel is concerned but it seems contrived, even if what the author points out makes sense. If she was desperate to get us to see this, it would have been easier to have some character in the story like one of the doctors point all this stuff out in a discussion with the main character. I am not against educating the reader but this seemed too directly didactic.Overall, This is a fun summer read!

Kara delivers a baby boy she names Alex but her happiness is short-lived when her baby is kidnapped
I'm late to the party. This is book twenty-one of the FBI thrillers by Catherine Coulter.Enigma begins when a man enters the house of Kara Moody, a young pregnant woman and barricades himself there. He claims he's there to keep her safe. Someone is after "them" and he wants to protect her. The woman's neighbor calls her friend in the FBI Agent Dillon Savich after hearing the screams of the deranged man. Savich saves the day and shoots the intruder without killing him. Surprisingly, the man enters into a coma and Kara goes into labor. Kara delivers a baby boy she names Alex but her happiness is short-lived when her baby is kidnapped.Agents Cam Witte and Jack Caboot will form a temporary partnership to find a well-known criminal who goes by the name of Manta Ray. Someone has helped him escape and all the leads take them to the Daniel Boone National Forest. With the help of the local police, they will start tracking Manta Ray and his two companions.Sherlock is an agent for the FBI. She's also married to Savich. Together, they will chase after the person or persons who are involved in the kidnapping of the newborn and the mistreatment of John Doe, which the FBI team believes has been used for an experimental drug treatment without his consent.I like that these two different plot lines are run simultaneously and they're weaved together in a way that by the end, it all makes sense. Many of the characters have a voice and the POV's switched multiple times. It gives the reader a bigger idea of what really is happening between the good guys and the bad ones.I have to admit that I liked Manta Ray. He's an Irish thief but very smart and resourceful. I liked that the author was able to humanize him with a couple of situations like when he gets a blister or he gives money to someone who needs it. I was hoping he was able to survive all the drama surrounding him.Sherlock and Savich have a strong relationship. They seemed to truly care for one another. They have a child and their home feels homey. Now, when they are at work, they are full on don't-mess-with-me agents.Cam and Jack made a good team. There's a spark between them and it wouldn't surprise me if they become an item in the next book.Kara and John Doe's storyline was a good one. I felt Kara's devastation when her son is taken from her but instead of becoming a mess, she turned to the person who tried to warn her about the danger she and her baby were in.Enigma is a fast-paced thriller. It had two well-done plot lines and had a myriad of engaging characters. I can see why there have been twenty books before in the FBI thriller series.Cliffhanger: No4/5 Fangs

great read
Enigma: An FBI Thriller is by Catherine Coulter. This is another Savich and Sherlock book. This book deals with the idea that man can stop the aging process and live longer. It has so many different pieces that it seems like two or three cases are being worked on simultaneously. Therefore, it keeps your attention.Savich had gotten a phone call from his friend, Dr. Janice Hudson. She had seen a man enter her neighbor’s house with a gun. Kara Moody was pregnant and could have her baby any time now. He needed to come over and help. Of course, Savich went over immediately and got there after the police. Dr. Hudson showed him where an entrance was and he entered the house to try to stop anything from happening to Kara. He was able to subdue the man and keep Kara safe; but the man was rendered unconscious. Kara was safe but in labor and soon had her baby boy. Then the day-old baby was kidnapped. Why and by whom? What did the man who had come to Kara’s house have to do with anything?Meanwhile, a bank robber and murderer was incarcerated in Sing Sing prison. He was being transferred and escaped. After a chase through a national forest, he finally got away with a lady who didn’t exist. What does he have to do with Kara and her baby? The story twists and turns as it progresses. This is what makes these thrillers so good.

Thought provoking
Catherine Coulter has written an entertaining yet thought provoking book. Touching on science gone wrong and current political sanctions being criminally challenged this book will make you think. The ethics of scientific research when they become corrupted by family need is one theme. The other theme is the use of a family member to blackmail a politically connected individual to get sanctions reversed. The link to both themes is father son relationships. Savich and Sherlock bring their enviable style to solving these crimes. Highly recommend this book which I consider one of the best in the FBI series.

Tgere is no way you can be disappointed by books by Catherine Coulter
It is interesting how Catherine Coulter can blend science, good guys and bad guys, love and hate, and how with the help of a super computer handled by her husband for wide and deep research, plus a lot of brain work, she unfolds a very interesting story which grabs you from the very beginning and does not let you go until the end.

#21 in the FBI Series
I am a true Catherine Coulter fan. I have read everyone of The FBI series, plus many of her other novels. I always pre-order her books so I get them when they firs come out. Inhale them in one sitting.I love Dillon and Sherlock and little Sean. This book was good, but I have to admit it was bit boring. It jumped around so much. Her books usually have more than one case going and move around but this just seemed to jump around more than most and I'd figured out the end way before we got there, it was a bit predictable.I don't think I have ever felt/said that about a Catherine Coulter book before. Ever.If you are reading the series, you don't want to miss this one, but it just wasn't as good as the others, I was a little disappointed. Will it stop me from reading the next one NO. But I hope its back to the normal excellence we expect and know of Catherine Coulter.
