Lets me know when the door has been left open
Between my 91 year old mother and a very intelligent cat, I was tearing my hair out over open front doors (dogs and cats escaping) and doors being left ajar or unlocked. The alarms scare them so bad (mom included) that the doors now stay locked and closed. I had to be creative on the attachment angles on some of the doors due to door molding.

Can hear from anywhere in house
Alarm/chime is very loud. Works great for when littles decide they want to be independent and try to go outside on their own. Can hear the alarm/chime from anywhere in the house.

Great door/window alarm
These bad boys are LOUD! It definitely startles me if I forget to turn them off before opening the door, but it’s a huge piece of mind, especially at night. I recommend these!

These seem to work fine, but aren't perfect.
Just purchased this five-pack of window and door alarms to replace a few of the ones that I currently have on my windows at home. One thing that isn't mentioned on the website, is that you will need an eyeglass screwdriver in order to loosen the battery cover, to remove the packing around the batteries. This tiny screwdriver will also be needed to remove the battery cover when the time comes to replace the LR44 batteries.Negatives:1) Only four of the five alarms worked out of the box. I'm assuming that the fifth needed fresh batteries. I still kept the set.2) I've been using a different brand of window security alarms for years. They were easier to mount due to the sensor (the more narrow piece) having enough surface area to stick securely to the window. The GE sensors are very narrow, and don't seem to stick as well as I would have liked. That said, I've always used double sided velcro tape (instead of the sticky tape that the sensors come with). The double sided velcro tape seems to secure the alarm and sensor to the window more securely, and after a few weeks, seem to be working just fine with the GE sensors. And FYI: double faced velcro tape is available at Dollar Tree, and comes with more than enough in order to mount the five alarms and sensors. Positives:1) The alarm on the GE units is very loud.2) These seem to be of a better quality than others that are on the market.FYI: I'm providing this review as a purchaser of this item, and am NOT being compensated for my review.

Second time purchasing.
The first time I purchased these was after an incident I had involving my son who is about to enter kindergarten. He’s on the spectrum, and one night in the middle of the night he woke up, feeling anxious about walking to his bus stop (which he was never going to do alone!), but he decided sometime between 2 AM and 4:30 AM that it was necessary for him to see if he could do this by himself. I lived in a very large home with three large dogs and locks on all my doors, but my son’s bedroom was on one side of the house and I was on the other. My husband was in Afghanistan, so it was just me and the dogs and the kids. My son grabbed a few juice pouches, put on his sneakers by himself, climbed on a telephone book to unlock one of the locks on the door that were too high for him to reach, and left my home in the middle of the night, and walked down the street. Ever hear those stories about children with autism, drowning in ponds or getting hit by cars and people blame the parents for being inattentive? Nightmare! My son made it back into the house and to his bed without ever waking up me or the dogs. I only discovered his adventure because he didn’t take off one of his shoes, and left the empty juice pouches on the top of the garbage can in the kitchen, which obviously wasn’t normal. One of my dogs at the time was a gigantic and very watchful Rottweiler and usually when the kids woke up in the night the dogs would wake me if I didn’t already hear them. It didn’t happen. So what to do? I mean a parent has to sleep at some point in time - our bedrooms were on the second floor so I only needed a solution for exit doors. I found these and ordered a set right away. Installed them as soon as I got them. Put them up high and turned them on. They are absolutely ear piercing. The adhesion doesn’t come off. There are settings so that the door just chimes on opening or you can set it to the full on alarm. I didn’t have to change the batteries once in five years. And in a 7000 square-foot house, if I was in the basement, if I was in the backyard , if I was dead to the world asleep, I could hear the alarm. 15 years later, kids are grown, and I am in a smaller place in town on the ground floor and while I’m in a fairly safe area, the rear entry to my unit is obscure, and I know from having a security background that also makes it a great target. I bought another set of these, and have slept just fine ever since. They’re on my first floor doors and windows. It’s a nice inbetween if you don’t want a monitored service or a Ring on every door. Well worth the $ for the piece of mind.
