How to Understand, Appreciate and Admire The Solar System
In the series The Planets, Prof Brian Cox introduces the planets of our Solar System in plain English, backed up by fabulous photography. In my opinion it ought to be copulsory viewing for (at least) all students. If I had seen it at school I would have leaned much further towards physics and science in general.Of course, The Planets is only the beginning. I'm equally hooked on the "Wonders" series' too; Wonders of Life, Wonders of the Solar System and Wonders of the Universe which follow on. Many thanks Professor.

Lots of image hides the substance.
Sort of sums up the BBC's output. Good idea, some good information, lots of padding, lots (and lots and lots) of repetition, loads of "the talent" speaking to camera in exotic locations that usually adds little, tiny bit of "real" footage, lots of imaginary, made-up footage. Yes, it tells you a lot of interesting theory but it takes so long because of the padding. The most interesting aspect - completely at odds with so much of the BBC's usual coverage - is how it describes how the Earth's development as part of the Solar System. If you've watched this, you'll be hugely entertained by the inane, infantile drivel spouted by the "climate change" idiots. When you appreciate what actually shapes the Earth's existence, you realise me leaving the telly on standby is utterly, utterly meaningless.

5 for the visuals and Cox
It'll be my age, probably, but this would have been so much more effective had the music not kept churning out mini-climax after mini-climax. It made each episode feel a little like watching a series of commercials. Introduction, build-up, BANG! Introduction, build-up, BANG! It's as though the makers pitched the series at an audience of impatient 12-year-olds.That said, every episode looks stunning and Brian Cox's enthusiasm for the subject is infectious. I found it fascinating and I'll definitely be watching it again. Just perhaps with the music turned down.

Stunning. Buy audiobook even more stunning!
It's one of the most stunning documentaries I have ever seen. So far the best about the Planets I've ever come across and I've seen many.Where can one buy the sountrack? The score is truly stunning too adding to the whole experience. I purchased the audio book and must admit it is even better than the series. So it is audiobook/ book Why is E=mc2 and why should we care. Beautifully written. Top ten anything Brian Cox does, really.. Best purchases in a long time I must admit.

Brilliant! Well worth the watch.
Amazing update to the series with the most recent and up-to-date information about our solar system. It's great to watch the original one before this one as you can see the progress that we have made and what we now know about our solar system. The CGI is really good. I do like Brian Cox but I'd of preffered Neil degrasse Tyson or Michio Kaku as a narrator.
