Sun Sniper Steel with Shock Absorber and Cutter-Crasher Wire anti-theft device. The Sun Sniper Steel is a revolutionary new camera strap. The fully adjustable strap allows you camera to glide easily along the strap. When not in use, your camera will hang comfortable at your side or behind you depending on how you position the strap. When you need to shoot, just grab the camera and pull it up into shooting position. The strap will stay in comfortably in place on your shoulder as the camera slides along the strap on its unique sliding carabiner. The strap is also equipt with an amazingly tough steel wire which is designed to prevent theft by cutting the strap while attached to you body. We are so convinced of its security that we offer a manufacturer’s insurance policy for $500 if your camera is stolen (see website of packaging for details). This is the perfect strap for photojournalists, sports photographers, nature photographers hiking or climbing, urban warriors who need to keep the cameras out of the way while working through the crowds, and wedding photographers. Sniper is the ultimate strap for the serious shooter. The strap is also designed to maximize ease on your back. This strap is so good that it not only reduced back strain, but it actually helps keep the curvature of your spine going the right way. With the Sniper strap you can carry those big lenses all day long. Doctor recommended: The Sun Sniper.

Nice camera strap, could be improved.
This strap is a huge improvement over every other strap I've ever owned. And I bought this model for the steel cable that runs through it, as I do a lot of international travel, and I felt the added security was worth it.However, it's not perfect. My biggest complaint is that, unlike some competing models and brands, there is no "stop" at the base of the strap, where the camera rests. This means the shoulder pad is constantly slipping off my shoulder. (A stop would cause the weight of the camera to center the strap back on your shoulder where it belongs).Second, the placement of the elastic "shock absorber" portion is a bit awkward. I would have preferred that it was placed under the shoulder pad area, so as to be invisible. Not a big deal, though.Lastly, the shoulder pad, while comfortable enough, looks a bit awkward, thanks to the placement of the strap adjustment. It forms a sort of an upside down 'V' over your shoulder.

Excellent strap, giving me peace of mind and make my camera a lot lighter
The subject tells all I wanna say.At the 1st few times using it, I'd worry if the strap or bearing would fail. After more than 2 years using it, I can tell you it is incredibly robust. The heaviest gear I'd carry on this strap is Canon 5DII, 70-200mm f2.8L IS II, 580EXII with various Lumiquest gels, Big Bounce. I run around happily for a full day, though I'm tiny in body build.Deducting 1 star due to:1. The strap is too long for my size, I have rolled a lot of it inside the shoulder pad, making the shoulder pad very thick.2. The should pad often slide out of position, to my back or near my butt. Not a big problem, just not looking elegant.3. At the spot of the strap that the bearing and weight usually hang around, there're one or two tiny steel wire poking out. Kind of sharp, but I've never gotten hurt so far. Just need to keep aware of.My other serious promateur friends saw me on this strap, changing from their Black Rapid to this one due to the steel wire giving peace of mind protecting his gears.

I'll Never Go Back!
Quick assess to my camera is as advertised. Carrying the camera upside down and low has proven to put the camera at no more risk than any other carrying position I have tried. In fact , I would contend it is at less risk since unlike the traditional strap I never need to remove the Sun Sniper from my neck or shoulder to take a picture so the chance of dropping the camera when doing so is eliminated. I have used the strap to comfortably carry lenses as big and heavy as the Sigma 120-400 on a D-SLR that also mounted a battery drive. When walking, you will want to keep a hand lightly on the camera to keep it from moving around, but it is easy to adjust the strap to a length that makes resting a hand on it comfortable and ready to bring the camera up for a shot.

Comfortable and does the job
It is a very comfortable strap. Of course, the strap can't save you from yourself. If you carry the camera on your back, someone can still yank the camera off your head and knock you down. The gauge of wire in the strap is thin, but it is to stop the casual thief, not the crazy guy in the alley (been there... I pleasantly handed the camera to the big man with the bigger knife). It is more comfortable than the Pacsafe version, which is pure cord (although it is a thicker gauge. I have this also). The other Pacsafe strap connects to the eyelets of the camera by a cloth cord (stupid). Get it for what it is... a comfortable camera strap that will stop the lazy thief. If you want complete protection, stick to garden parties with Ricky Nelson and stay out of alleys.

My new favorite strap
This strap delivers!I have been using an old strap I found in a shop many years ago because it was the only one I found that was small enough and long enough to satisfy me. I generally don't like wearing my cameras around my neck, it doesn't feel good and you look like a doof. However with my old strap I had to transition from across chest to over neck when starting to shoot and vice versa. This strap solved my issues! Now I am 6'2" and I have a long torso. So any strap that doesn't extend past 50" is not going to work for me across the chest. This sun-sniper is nice and long and its not even at its longest adjustment! My D700 sits right by my hip and tucks behind my butt while walking perfectly. Awesome! The strap itself is very comfortable, the shock absorber works as intended and the shoulder strap is well padded and although its a stiffer padding than I'd like... its better in the long run. The nylon strap looks and feels of quality, the carinbiner glides effortlessly on the strap. The steel wire that runs through the main strap does not make the strap stiffer and awkward to use like some other safe straps. It also adds a level of security not only from thieves but overall durability.

Well Made Strap However Requires Modifications
Comfortable and well constructed with suitable materials used in the construction strap padding, shock-absorber, and webbing , however I found the provided lug and swivel connector for camera or lens attachment employs plastic retainer materials which is subject to possible failure requiring replacement with a a standard all-metal swivel snap lock and d-ring connector.

Security Plus Ease of Use
California Sun Sniper Steel-Steel Reinforced Padded Camera Sniper (Black) I love it! Used for the first time on an extensive, activity packed tour of Turkey, involving both urban, countryside and sailing activities. The steel reinforcement gave me security. The adjustment straps allowed me to hold the camera off my fanny where it was out of the way when moving through crowds, or not swinging wildly while trekking. It was easy to pull the camera up quickly and upright for picture taking. I was able to fire away at photo ops that presented themselves quickly. When passing through security screening at the airport, a German officer made me pull the camera (and strap) out of my bacpack. He checked the camera and the belt, smiled, and told me he loves his. "The best camera strap I have ever owned." he stated. I concur.

Comfortable, strong and well made
I'm really impressed with this strap. Until now I've used a normal Canon strap but when carrying an SLR for long periods of time it is really uncomfortable to have the camera bouncing in front of you or sticking out at your side if you wear the strap over one shoulder. Either way the strap then becomes in your way when taking a picture. This Sniper strap solves that by holding the camera down at your waist pointing behind you. It is then easy to grab and and bring it to your eye in one swift movement. When walking around it is really comfortable and the lens of the camera points behind you so doesn't risk hitting anything or anyone as you walk. It is well made and looks like a quality product. At first it feels risky holding the camera upside but the screw fastening seems secure and because it is on a bearing which turns with the strap it doesn't unscrew itself inadvertantly. The strap comes with two different rubber 'washers' of different thickness so you can choose the best fit based on how deep the screw thread is on your camera. This fastener does mean you can't stand the camera flat on its base on a table and instead you have to lie it on its side but that is a minor inconvenience.I was torn between this strap and the Black Rapid RS-7 which is very similar in form and price but ultimately chose this one for the steel core for that bit of extra security when walking around less safe areas. The wire does make the strap slightly more rigid which makes it harder to fold up in your camera bag but it doesn't hinder the comfort and so that is a small price to pay for the extra security.

Very efficient bit of simple engineering.
Top piece of kit - the fitting into the tripod mount on the camera won't come loose - it has a rubber friction washer that keeps your pride and joy safe - (I suppose that if your camera was wet and cold, though, and if you did 50 pirouette's while swinging it around your head it might be a problem). They also supply you with a spare washer if you wear this one out.Comfy shoulder pad with a lot of scope for adjustment for those with arms like an orangutan. You will have to take it off, though, if you want to mount your camera on a tripod, or buy one of the alternative fittings separately.Made in the Fatherland, so quality is assured, but I guess you'll have to take them on their word that the strap is 'knife proof'. Or test it by walking through North London for 30 seconds.Came quickly as well.A genuine alternative to the Black Rapid range (which are also very good products).

Not Bad At All...
Recieved today, 24 hours after ordering...Had seen lots of reviews on this type of strap, some more expensive, some cheaper but decided on the Sun-Sniper..It appears a well made sturdy strap, ive worn it today while out taking shots & it was very comfy compared to the strap around the neck..I just hope the connection that screws to the tripod hole is ok & holds out, Must admit i kept checking this every 5 minuets!! suppose its just getting used to having £1,300 worth of kit dangeling off it!!! As an extra security measure i am going to customise the strap a bit JUST IN CASE the tripod connection fails which i hope it wouldnt!! Going to have a second "cable" attached to the camera & on to the webbing so if it does fail at least my camera wont go crashing to the floor!! Its probably just me being extra careful & the tripod screw will i expect be fine...My only grudge is the price, could be a little cheaper for what it is but up to now, am happy with it!!

Very happy with it
To be honest my big worry with the Sniper Strap was whether it would twirl and unscrew and that the camera would crash to the ground. Its attached to the strap by a carabineer clip (the sort of things climbers use - a small version). This is attached also to the bit that screws into the bottom of the camera (in the tripod holder bit). This allows the camera to swing and rotate without putting any rotational force on the screw going into the camera. It appears (to me at least) that its very unlike it will unscrew itself. For me its a massive improvement on the normal strap. It was killing my neck when I had a heavy lens on it. With the strap across the body it distributes the weight much better. The camera also hangs behind your back so when you are walking through a crowd its doesn't bump against other people. Its much quicker to get the camera up to your eye to take a photo. I really like that part. You can have one hand on it ready. The steel in the strap doesn't add any weight its actually quite thin. The adjust of the strap is a bit basic (just squash more or less of it under the velcro. If I were to improve it I would be a screw slot in the bottom of it so you could screw it onto a tripod (you have to remove it to use a tripod.I would like some part of the strap to be a narrow as the normal Canon or Nikon type one (as I have a small remote which no longer attach to the strap). I would also but some pocket/pockets on it to store some bits and piece (small objects like batteries or memory cards.)In summary for me its a vast improvement on my old strap. Expensive as it is, it was worth it for me.

Expensive but worth it
After getting fed-up of having neck ache caused by 2 cameras hanging round my neck and bouncing off my chest whilst walking around I eventually went for this. It's an excellent product and means one camera can now hang down by my hip and not interfere with the other camera. A really well padded shoulder strap means it doesn't dig in though sometimes it can slip to the wrong place and you need to keep pulling it back around again. Camera attachment is by means of a standard thread tripod screw and this also means the strap can be removed quickly and easily if it interferes with a particular shot.It loses one star because of it's hefty price tag but it's a good investment just for the relief of neck pain.
