A caring, warm voice full of inspiration
This lovely book starts with an engaging autobiographical introduction: the author, a master poet, shares an episode from her own personal voyage toward learning how to 'let go.' From that point on the reader feels supported and guided by a caring companion who has weathered the often rough but rewarding waters to a place of creativity and discovery. The book alternative between clear and concise exposition of poetry structure and technique, interviews, and engaging exercises to help move the process of writing forward. An excellent guide for the beginning, intermediate, and even advanced poet looking for a new angle and new inspiration.

Good book for new poets
I found the book to be interesting and very well written. I bought it, however, thinking it had been written for more seasoned poets so it didn't offer a lot of new information to me. I've published in numerous journals and have seven books/chapbooks out so was hoping for something higher level. For the beginning, serious poet I would highly recommend it. Many gems of information and examples between the covers. The author is a fantastic poet.

Many of the things you wondered about poetry!
Easy to understand and digest information on line breaks and how they work to enhance poems and how they work to help poets sculpt their poems from wordier drafts.

Practical and inspiring
The author's background as an expert teacher, poet, and writer comes to the page in a very imaginative and refreshingly approachable text. She offers practical steps for problems as broad as writer's block to those as specific as tuning the musicality in a particular line of poetry. She is deeply intellectual and has academic depth, yet approaches the craft and magic of creating poetry with real-world how-to. I've been writing and publishing poetry for many years, and found some new ideas and things to try. Beginners will also find a solid foundation for how to get started and continue discovering the joys of writing poetry. - Eileen Duncan

Repair Tips for Those Broken Lines
The most valuable lesson in this book is how to build the structure that best-personifies what the poet is compelled to express when they "let go."
