Van Der Meulen Original Holland Toast, Original Rusk, 3.5-Ounce Packages (Pack of 12)

In cold weather, especially, I'm addicted to gratineed French onion soup. These Holland rusks make it ridiculously easy to prepare almost instantaneously in the microwave! This recipe is never-fail and virtually as good as what you will get in an expensive restaurant! The rusks are exactly the right size and shape for onion soup bowls.RECIPE: For two servings. Place a slice of Gruyère/Swiss cheese (or equivalent amount of shredded cheese) on each of four Holland rusks. Put two of the cheese-topped rusks, stacked, in each of two microwavable onion soup bowls. In a microwavable bowl or measuring cup mix one can of condensed French onion soup (I find the store-brands a bit better for this as they're a touch sweeter than Campbell's) with 3/4 can of water and 1/4 can of red wine. If you have it, add a splash of brandy. Microwave for 3 - 4 minutes until hot (doesn't need to boil). Pour the hot soup over the cheese-topped rusks in the soup bowls. Put the bowls in the microwave and cook for another 90 seconds, until the cheese melts and everything is heated through. Serve immediately. The cheese won't brown in the microwave -- if you want that put the soup bowls under a broiler for a few minutes, or use a chef's blowtorch. However, the cheese will be satisfyingly gooey and melty in the microwave.

These Dutch rusks are as good as any other brands we’ve tried in the past. We use these for soups mainly but sometimes they serve as a buttered toast with a little sugar sprinkled on top. We bought a case as a Xmas present for my husbands 93 yr old Mother. She came to the US after the war and loves her rusk. At her age it’s the small things that count like something familiar from her childhood so she was so happy to receive the Dutch rusks. They are very good and no complaints from the recipients! 👍😊

I have been eating Dutch Rusk for years. During the holiday season, I use it when baking banket (Dutch pastry) as a filler. This is the first time I've ordered this particular brand and I'm quite disappointed. It has a very stale taste to it, even though it is a dried food product. I'm concerned that this will impact the flavor of my banket which I bake for numerous other people.

Tried a different brand before and alot of them were broken.Not with these.On my fifth roll and not one broken one yet.they are fresh and crispy.I like to toast them lightly for improved taste.I'll stick with these from now on.

I have always loved beschuit, and this is a convenient way to get them at a convenient way to get them at a competitive price. Most importantly, though, they were all fresh and unbroken. I have had so many broken beschuit in my life that I was pleasantly surprised they were all intact. Highly recommended.

I bought 2 full cases. Outside of box fine, but nearly all rolls inside of cases were completely crumbs and broken. I would hope someone would contact me to either replace or refund.

I live in Nashville, born in Holland. The whole family, including grandchildren all love this biscuit. Can't find it anywhere except when I visit family in Canada. Also a Dutch store in Dallas, TX.
