100 Years, 100 Artworks: A History of Modern and Contemporary Art

If you take the time to sit down and actually read it (very much including the Introduction, which explains the author’s thinking in putting it together) this is one of the most insightful and inspiring art history surveys ever written. And I have shelves of good ones. Ms. Berecz has a fierce, insightful mind, and will reawaken your enthusiasm for art, and the artistic search, if you give her a little of your time. Kudos, Ms. Berecz, this is an amazing book!

Love this book - came in perfect condition and was actually delivered a day early! Way to go Amazon! The book is a nice size - not too big and not too small (approx 10.75 inches tall by 8.75 inches wide) - makes a great "eye candy" piece for a living room coffee table, end table or nightstand. I've flipped thru the pages and look forward to reading this book - one good thing - easy reading - generally 2 pages per artist - one page typed with info about artist and details surrounding their artwork shown - and one page that has picture of the art work that is featured. Highly recommend this book for any art enthusiast.

Agnes Berecz has created an incredible compendium of what is Contemporary Art, how it has evolved, its essence, its definitions, and a tour which is a feast for the eyes. Her prose is impeccable, her explanations most lucid, giving life to the abstract, to the plethora of art forms, within a remarkably succinct delivery. This book educates the reader about Contemporary Art, and is a necessary add to anyone's library of knowledge. There is nothing like this out there for the lay viewer or those who know more about Art for that matter.This book is a masterpiece for the ages. It is a treat for the eyes, and a joy for the mind's eye.

Berecz writes with clarity, insight, and verve about this collection of modern artworks she considers influential. The fun is in finding surprising choices and arguing in your mind over others. Why someone was included or someone else omitted? It makes you think about the art you admire and learn about artists you should pay attention to. It is an excellent introduction to modern art and makes for a fantastic gift.

A wonderful overview of art in the last 100 years. I read and studied an artist/page a day and have learned so much. The writing was so compelling that I often spent more time Googling and researching the artists. A treasure of a book. Has been a hit with guests that flip through as well. Highly recommended.

I liked the way it was presented, the artists she picked, the images, the whole book, I use it for my enjoyment and I gave away 3 as a gift. She is a wonderful teacher and her all around knowledge is very extensive. It’s also en educational book.

The task to pick an artist per year must have been daunting- almost impossible, but to find such ground breaking artists a Claes Oldenburg and Red Grooms excluded from the roster paints the remainder of the book as ill defined. I can only read the rest with those omissions lurking in my mind.

I was very disappointed with this book. The art chosen to represent the year ( or what they call art) was awful. But thats just my opinion.

Great overview of key modern art pieces. Just the right level of detail for somebody who wants to get some background on each piece but who doesn’t have the spare time to read a detailed history. High quality images. Very enjoyable.

This is a very good book for a quick introduction to modern art. The size is very big and the images are of very good quality. We enjoy it with my daughter so no complaints.
