I just replaced my favorite hook knife with the Morakniv 164
The media could not be loaded. This is my first Morakniv and I'm happy. I've been a spoon carver for a very long time and I've owned my share of expensive custom carving knives and aside from a few nuances, I find it increasingly difficult to justify spending hundreds of dollars on carving knives when a much cheaper knife works as well or even better. I've been using another brand for a long time and really don't have a complaint, but when I first tried a Morakniv hook knife, I was immediately struck by the quality of the materials used, the edge sharpness retention and the price. The Swedish mfg hit a homerun with this product. My only complaint is my hands are large and because I'm old, I have arthritis so the smaller handle is difficult to hold, but the knife is otherwise so well made, the small handle size is lost when measured against everything Morakniv excels at. So watch my 5 minute video. I explain a lot more in the video.

such a great product! . Very sharp and handy. T
-If you are looking for a handy and well built tool for wood carving, this is the right piece. Excellent tool for carving spoons , "kuksa" cups and muggs. Not so big (be shure to check properly the desired diameter of the blade before purchase) so, if you are looking for a tool to create large bowls and so, probably you must go for another tool. Very sharp, and ready to be used right out of the box. Moravnik is an excellent brand, less expensive than other fancy brands and I would add, it offers the best quality vs money proportion in the Market. THey made also superbe knives at a really low price.

Great quality, super sharp, carves with ease!
Arrived quickly, leather case is nice to protect one during transport and when not in use as the blade is very sharp. Blade carves through hardwood (even black locust) with ease!

Unfinished. it hurts!
The media could not be loaded. I was waiting so much for this ! But it is not well finished, the part where you should be able to put your finger hurts it is not even sanded. I can’t use this in this condition. The blade was very good like very good. I am waiting for a response from morakniv, because I know mistakes can happen. I am going to change and update my review after I receive a response from someone.Update: it looks like I need to learn how to use the hook because the company told me all their hooks look like that and i should not put my finger there either. I saw other brands and they don’t look like this, they will well finish this part too but I guess this is not important so my bad. Like I said before the blade is veeery good.Amazon sent me another one to check and it was the same thing so I am returning that one and staying with the first one because I already use it.

Great Mora quality
I love the handle. It fits well in my hand and doesn't fatigue the muscles. The blade is another great one by Mora, which I've come to trust over the years. I have no bad knives from them, and most are really affordable. This one came with a really nice leather sheath, which is a big plus. Well-made. Recommended.

Wood Carving Necessity
Bought this for my husband for Christmas, and now he uses it all the time for his wood carving projects. He is left-handed and has found that it is still easy to use. My right-handed brother also uses it and find the grip and hold equally comfortable. We have used it on soft and hard woods and it has been able to handle both, so as of today, I would say it is pretty durable. I would advice that it is sneakily sharp and can cut you without you noticing, so if you are not using it, make sure to wrap it with the cover.

First Impressions are Important - This rocks!
I've owned it for less than a day, have used it briefly on a current spoon design I'm working on. It puts my $13 Beavercraft hook knife to shame. Sharp as hell, cuts like butter and makes the process of hogging out material from a spoon bowl so quick and easy, it borders on effortless. The knife is well made, looks and feels nice in the hand, and conforms well to the dimensions and tolerances specified in the ad. Get it, it's worth the money.
