Toy Story 4 - A 5* must see movie at Cinemas, on DVD and Blu Ray.
Fo me, and us as a family, Toy Story 4 was one of the BIG movies of 2019. Our kids, currently aged 5 and 3 have grown up with Andy, Sid, Mollie, Buzz, Woody and the rest of the characters, Hamm, Slinky, Jessie, Sarge, etc.The good news is that Toy Story 4 keeps up, and in some areas, exceeds expectations that it will be at least as good as, it's predecessors. In true Disney fashion, they've created a back story that allows them to introduce new characters and potentially create spin off stories in a Toy Story multi-verse. That being said, the story is an emotional roller coaster for adults and younger children that can feel the empathy woven into the story line. It's got highs and lows, laughter and tears, both of joy and sadness.Looking at what Disney / Pixar have done with Toy Story 4 makes me genuinely excited about the franchise going forward. The new characters are hilarious, the goodies at least, and there's certainly a feeling of darkness and menace (a bit anyway - it is a kids movie after all) in the baddies. All the new characters feel right at home in the overall feel of the movie and sit nicely alongside the characters we've all grown to love in the previous 3 movies. Clearly a lot of thought and ideas have gone into the making of this movie regarding characters and direction.Without giving any of the story away, I can say you should watch this if you haven't already. It's definitely one of the must see movies of 2019. I looked forward to this every bit as much as I am looking forward to the Frozen II DVD release early 2020, and maybe, just maybe the spin off movies that I for one would love them to create, both in Toy Story and Frozen. 5* all round.

The satisfying end to a great saga
This has to be the greatest feat ever: to create the fourth film in a series and manage to make it even more touching, clever and satisfying than its predecessors. Pixar manages what many franchises can only dream of. This film effectively brings the journey of our favourite cowboy, Woody, to an end. This is his film.Woody, is at a loose end, somewhat obsolete in the hierarchy of the little girl's bedroom which he now calls home. He is rueful but philosophical about it, fighting for relevance in what ever way he can. The introduction of a new toy and a road trip come together to try his patience, perseverance and resourcefulness to the limit and reunites him with an old friend who opens up the possibility of a more exciting future. Ever true to his personal creed of 'leaving no toy behind' Woody manages to selflessly tie up all loose ends in the lives of those around him while finding his own final path to happiness. There are a number of new characters - some hilarious, others touching - all essential to the storyline which is tight and quick-paced and has quite a few totally unexpected turns. A very enjoyable film for children and adults alike. A definite 'Must See'!

Woody's choice
A new movie from Pixar animation, and it's another in the Toy Story franchise. Familiarity with the first three films will help you get into this one. But the recent stand alone shorts are not required viewing to get this. Doubtless there's nobody reading this who hasn't seen the three films by now, but you never know.Woody and the toys are Bonnie's now. But Woody isn't getting picked when it comes to the ones she plays with. Taking the mission of making her happy a bit personal, when Bonnie starts kindergarten and makes a new toy called Forky, Woody will do anything to ensure the latter doesn't come to harm. When things predictably go wrong on a road trip, it leaves him with a choice of possible futures...This is, as you would expect, beautifully animated. Check out the rain in the early scenes, it's amazing. And it does have actors who have their roles down pat. It also has an awful lot of heart. There is a big matter of emotional choices running through this. But:As ever, Pixar sequels don't see their creative juices flowing as well as they do with their original projects. Thus this is slightly lacking in what it needs to be five stars and a decent finale to the franchise. Since it is seemingly the end.First up, most of the toys don't get much of a look in. It's mostly about Woody and Bo Peep. Who's become tough and self reliant. Before anyone goes 'eek! female empowerment again!' it's actually about empowerment as a whole. As becomes clear from the end. Which does have a good point to make, and does it well.Buzz doesn't fare quite so well as a character without Woody by his side, as what the film does with him will be something that may or may not work for you. It's a matter of opinion. It's also not the funniest either. The serious and emotional stuff does get more of a look in. There are moments of this, and some mildly scary bits as well, which might be too much for the very young. There are some good new characters though, and Keanu Reeves is brilliant in his vocal role. Whilst this does do a better job of ending the franchise than Cars three did, it's still not quite the conclusive ending that it really needs. So it's a good four star film, with a lot to like. But Pixar can do better, when thinking more about originality rather than dollars. This is apparently the last sequel of theirs, and their new few films are original tales. Fingers crossed. There are some extra scenes during the beginning of the end credits of this, but nothing after those finish that you need to hang on for.The disc has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English, Italian, English audio descriptive.Subtitles; English, Italian. The disc, as ever with Disney ones, begins with trailers that can be skipped via the next button on the dvd remote. And which are in the sneak peeks section of the dvd anyway. But for the first time in longer than I can remember we have a Disney dvd with an extra! In this case, it's just an audio commentary from the director and the producers. But it's a start....
