Ramayana

Really nice complete Epic in one volume.
I have bought other books from this publisher starting with the Mahabharata. Having this great epics each bound in a single volume without commentary is really appreciated. Some of the Dust Covers from this publisher are glued on. The hard back underneath is plain without title or printing so having the cover glued on makes some sense. It is easy to read and has few distracting grammatical errors. This is one of the Greatest Epics ever written and this book really does it justice. It is easy to read for Western readers and I was able to rebuild my Indian essentials library quickly with the books from this publisher.

An excellent retelling of Ramayana
This is one of the best retellings of Ramayana in English. I would give five stars for the storytelling itself — the structure and the flow of the plot; but Subramaniam's use of English is rather stilted and often clumsy, relying on idioms that become irritating in their repetition. Read this for its detail but, if you are looking for a beautifully written version as an introduction to this great story, I would first read the retelling by [William?] Buck. Both of these are retellings, not actual translations.

Keeps all the fun of the story
More in-depth than many translations, especially since female characters including Sita amd Kausalya are rounded out well in this version. Keeps all the fun of the story. Very few typos. Some not-so-common Sanskrit terms could do with translation, but not so many as to detract from the experience.

Wonderful, full of light
Excellent English version of these beautiful epics. She also wrote the Mahabharata and Srimad Bhagavatan, the life of Krishna. Her writing is suffused with light and poetry. Hard to find these days but worth the search. Highly recommended.

Poetic beauty of Ramayana captured here:)
I loved how the author has tried to capture the poetic beauty of the original work by the sage Valmiki. As much as possible, the book reads like a poem. Nice translation and interpretation!

A classic narration.
This faithful narration of accounts in Valmiki's Ramayana, brilliantly written by Kamala Subramaniam, has already gone into eleven editions since 1981. It is a classic. Next to reading Valmiki in original Sanskrit, this work in English would easily satiate a discerning reader.

A beautiful edition
Writtenly beautifully and reads well. A lovely way to fully immerse in more than a translation. There is a beauty to this edition.
