Exactly what I wanted. Great product!
Great doggie car seat! This is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a carrier that had a metal frame around the top so as not to collapse in on my dog like so many seem to. I also wanted it to have a nice firm bottom to hold my little guy up. The bottom on this is covered in a fleece like fabric, my guess is over time that will wear out. No big deal, expected with use, I will just cut a piece of foam board or something and cover it.Now I can't tell you how many reviews and products I read and searched, I couldn't find anywhere on this product any of the specific specs I was looking for. But out of what I had read it seemed like a good shot and I'm glad I did.My pup is a chihuahua mix about 10lbs he fit perfectly with plenty of room to lay down if he wants. He was nervous at first but once he realized he could see everything as I was driving he loosened up. I could even roll down the window for him with no fear of him jumping out thanks to the clip in the carrier. And he loved the breeze. Now I've only used this for a day and will update should anything change with use.I would highly recommend this product. And so far can find no cons to the product. I will probably get a fluffy blanket for it, my little dude loves fluffy blankets lol.I do quite a bit of my shopping online, particularly at Amazon, so like you I depend on reviews to be honest so I can make an informed decision. ALL of my reviews are on products I purchased on Amazon, I have never reviewed an item I did not personally buy ON Amazon. So, I hope this has been helpful for your shopping needs. If you have a question I will try and answer it to my best ability. Enjoy your shopping!

Great product with a big flaw
This product is replacing a similar product that I had used for years with another dog. I like the AKC seat design better—the stabilizing strap that attaches at the front of the carrier and goes around the car headrest keeps the seat from sloping downward very well. This strap is in addition to the shorter strap at the back of the seat that also goes around the headrest. The faux sheepskin on the bottom of the seat is a nice touch; I cover it with a towel just to keep it a little cleaner. My one complaint (which was mentioned in another review), and I consider a pretty major flaw, is that the straps that go around the back of the seat are not at all long enough! I am mounting the seat in a CRV and not around the larger of the two back seats, but it is just too short! One of the buckles is the kind with no “stop” on the buckle so it just pulls to the end. It is threaded correctly but not a good buckle. I was able to use the product by cutting the straps off of my old seat and sewing the old straps (with better buckles) on to the new seat’s short straps. I’m surprised that a good product with good features has this problem. I wonder what size car has seats that would work with these short straps?!

Work swell
Arrived in good condition, I have had this for quite some time now, a bit over a year and it has hold up really well.

Helped our Pup with his Motion Sickness!
Our pup suffers from motion sickness and it's difficult making a trip to the vet without him vomiting. We knew that part of the problem was because he's too small to climb up to the window to get some fresh air, so we decided to look into something that would help. I then found this booster seat and due to its simplicity, decided to order it right away. The product arrived very quickly and we decided to give it a try. Installation was very easy and I was able to install it to both the front passenger seat as well as any of the backseats. One thing to note is that inside of the booster seat is a hook that you can attach your pups harness to, which prevents them from jumping out of the booster seat. Once we had the booster seat installed and Buddy's harness attached to the clip, we were ready to roll! Buddy appeared so much happier being able to see out of the window himself, and I'm sure the fresh air hitting his face helped him a lot too! He did get motion sickness the first time (I blame it on the speed bumps), and he did vomit inside of his booster seat, however we were able to that part OUT of the booster seat to clean then throw in the washer. Thank goodness! Today he's getting through his motion sickness and I have to really thank this booster seat for the help. I'd definitely recommend this product to other pet owners out there.

awesome!
I purchased this for my tiny Maltese puppy who is gradually getting accustomed to it. She wanted to sit on my lap (unsafe, I know) but I wanted a safer choice for both her and me. She is far too wiggly and that is safe for neither of us anyways. This is proving to be a great option. It hangs over the back of the seat and has a strap that wraps around the back of it (since mine is in the wider backseat, I had to rig this part up a bit). It is relatively easy to install but I do leave mine up since it would be a bit of a task to redo each time (kind of like installing a bike rack each time you wanted to use it). It seems sturdy in nature and has a nice soft sherpa-like bottom that pets would enjoy. It also has a clip that I highly recommend putting onto a harness NOT a collar as your dog might do like mine did the first time and try to jump out. The harness is much safer in both that circumstance as well as in, God forbid, an accident. On that note, fortunately, I have not had to test the actual crash safety of this and, let's be honest, these are not car seats for children that have been rigorously tested. The AKC name made me feel more confident on this, whether that is warranted or not, but she is at least safer than hopping about my car and potentially distracting me.

Good but has serious safety flaws
Well, what to say...first of all the box arrived with the packing tape so loose that you could easily open the box and peer in. My first thought was someone tried to pry it open.So not a great first impression. The product contains a synthetic sheep skin padding that looks fine but then you realize that inside the padding (at the bottom of the seat) is a cardboard insert to give the seat both form and “strength” to maintain its shape. This will clearly not last too long. They could easily have put in a plastic insert.Next the fasteners are all plastic. From a distance they look metallic but you quickly realize they’re plastic when you’re setting this up in the car. And just a word of warning, please people, do not put your pet in the front passenger seat. I have taught driving school courses to teens and it’s spelled out clearly that children and babies should never, under any circumstances be placed in any position in the passenger seat. The same goes for pets. With that in mind, I use this in the back seat of a sedan. And I would not trust any of this product’s latches to hold together during an accident of any degree. So I bought two car buckle latches for dogs (one on either side of him) to brace the dog (by its harness) to keep him safe while I drive. It actually looks great and my dog loves the fact that he can look around and see out the windows safely. My dog is now feeling fine while in the car (he previously had car sickness on a pretty routine basis). So, to sum up, it looks nice but needs heavy duty car buckles for dogs to make sure it keeps your dog safe. If you’re willing to buy these to supplement this car seat then you’ll get some use out of this seat. On its own, its a safety risk to use this for your pet.

Great but not durable
Lucie loves it but it is falling apart after a year. The frame is not sturdy and the straps are tearing away. She’s only 10 lbs, gets in it herself but sometimes has difficulty getting out.

Nice for a starter dog seat. Needs modifications if being used a lot
This was great at first. But found that it needs more cushioning as my dog doesn’t want to stand up the whole time in the car. She wants to sleep/sit sometimes. She’s a chihuahua and the can’t do that in this. I think the “seatbelt” strap needs to be able to be even an inch longer as it was an uncomfortable position that it made her sit in when attached. Also, if your pup is anything like mine she likes to see what’s going on and she puts her front paws on the top of the front edge and after continued use it has collapsed and made it really uncomfortable. I’ve done a lot of modifications to mine to make it work for her. Maybe add some supports to make it keep shape? Butter cushioning?

Very good product at a reasonable price
I was skeptical about this when my wife wanted me to purchase it for our new rescue Chihuahua. Boy was I wrong! This car seat is fantastic. It keeps the little guy restrained but without making him cry and whimper about being in his crate.Pros:1. He can't get out of it. The short lead combined with the sides of the unit stop him from getting out of the seat. This is safer for him, and prevents him from getting under foot.2. It is tall enough and stable enough for him to stand or sit comfortably.3. The sturdy frame is supposed to prevent him from being injured by an airbag deployment. We haven't tested that, and I hope never will. It does, however, seem sturdy enough to at least soften the blow.4. He is able to see out the window easily, even when lying down.5. The seat cushion appears comfortable for him. The sheepskin keeps him warm in the winter and should help him keep cool in the summer.Cons:1. The seat is pretty small. Our dog is 6lbs. Yet as you can see in the picture, he really needs the whole space to be comfortable and completely inside the seat. To be fair however, he is very long and lean, and the hoodie and jacket add considerable girth to him.2. The lead may allow too much movement to really keep him restrained. As you can see in the photos, he can reach his head far enough forward to get it outside of the safety area of the seat.Overall, this is a very good product for a fair and reasonable price.

Good product, but one improvement required.
I have a 6 lbs yorkie and the size is perfect. I can install it high enough so she can see outside. The material is of good quality and well stitched together. However, the inside bottom is made of carton with a slipcover over it. My dog was sick in the car while we were on the highway. So it went through the material and was absorbed by the carton. Furthermore, if my dog moves too much in it (she likes to look everywhere when she's in the car) it tends to fold half way on itself and she ends up being squeezed. I believe changing the carton of the inside bottom for something rigid would solve the issues and make all the difference from 3 to 5 stars :)
