Preliminary Review
I would normally not review something so soon after buying it, not to mention before its played through one time, but I have to put my ancient opinion out there.Firstly, what I have heard so far has ben great musically. I dig it. All members stand out as more than competent. Great production and on the MP3, no complaints on the mix.Ok, now, the blending of genres and elements of other genres together has come to ahead in modern times. (Country/Rap) I am not able to completely relate to all of this album, because I am older than the members and targeted audience, I am sure, but I can play a mean blast beat myself and love complex music of all kinds, from the various cores to jazz fusion to anything in between, so I appreciate the talent here. However, Mad at Myself prompted this review. I have not heard such a conflicting personality of music in my life. I grew up with Death, Cannibal Corpse, Carcass, etc., so I associate compression screaming and growling with brutal lyrics to go along with the brutal music. Imagine my surprise when Mad at Myself came on and, well, to be honest I thought it was something akin to a singer I won't mention for fear of death threats from 16 year old metal heads (or what passes for them these days :))All kidding aside, I do think I am a little old to relate to the genre, but I am impressed with the song compositions and the musicians themselves. The poppy side of the lyrics doesn't jive with me, but I won't not listen to it because of this. So, for those of you of the old guard, heed my warning, you will be surprised if you haven't heard much of this genre, maybe not pleasantly if you like more darkness and doom and gloom (or even just heavy subjects of substance) with your "core", but give it a shot anyway, as there is an interesting blend of genres here that is hard to pin down, executed very well.

One of the Best Alt. Albums of the Year
This album is a powerful mix of screamo, metal, electronic, R&B, and rock. The lyrics are beautifully written and are able to connect with the listener. (Check out "Disappear (Remember When)" if you don't think a song can touch you at an emotional level.) The intertwining of the spoken and screamed portions are flawless, especially in "Late". The music itself sounds completely original. The typical 3 piece of guitar/ bass/ drums sounds great in itself, but the augments from the synth and samples included in certain parts of songs make it sound like something completely new. This is a defining album for the current trend in the industry of mixing traditional rock/ punk with electronic.Issues is a band to watch over the next few years if they can keep making albums of this caliber. If you aren't sure about buying the album, listen to "Life of a Nine", "Late", "Langdon House", and "Disappear (Remember When)". This is one of those rare albums where just about every song is enjoyable and can be listened to several times over in a single day.
