Sky Streak Balsa Wood Glider Plane

I bought a box of 24 for a child birthday party. I used to buy these as a kid. I read some reviews saying they are cheap, but come on...they are made of balsa wood so they will not last forever. That being said I flew them all day with only minor breakage. I got some to fly about 100 feet! Just be sure that you don't let kids put them together and when you put them together be very careful. Have fun with these. I did.

I was mislead by the advertisement. This was supposed to be for a bulk pack of 24 planes, which is what I paid for and ordered 3 packs, but when they came, I only got 3 individual planes. Amazon has looked into correcting the problem.

Out of the package, a typical Sky Streak weighs between 11 and 14 grams, depending on the density of the balsa wood used in the kit. One of the kits I built weighed 13.5 grams and would barely fly more than a few of seconds. I sanded down the thickness of the wing, fuselage, stabilizer, rudder and plastic prop to get the weight down to 8.5 grams. I also added tip dihedral to the wing to increase roll stability (see Academy of Model Aviation web site for Sky Streak wing tip modification). Now it will fly for about 30 seconds and climbs like crazy using a 13" long rubber motor loop made from 3/32" wide FAI Super Sport rubber strip.

Great for school classes with younger kids showing how things fly. These are made out of balsa, so do not expect anything very tough.

Brings back childhood memories. Carry a box of these around to hand out to my clients kids... so fun to see both the parents and kids eyes light up. This is a real toy, easy to build, hands on and it flies great. Get off the sofa, drop the game controller or mouse and go have some real fun
