It needs to be really HOT
Finally tested it out yesterday - works great although I put a little too much in it so it oozed out and I didn't have it hot enough but after a few adjustments the waffle still came out great although I thought it would be taller? Can't wait to use it again. And clean up was a breeze because it is cast iron. Definitely a great investment. With a little practice I can see it will be used all the time.

Works, very little sticking
I washed my new waffle iron the night before and soaked in with peanut oil on two burners, one for each half. Deep puddles are best, but I just sprayed generously, left it on low for a while, turned it off again and repeat. By the next day, I poured off excess oil and was ready to use. I was making yeast/sourdough-ish rice waffles as a wheat bread replacement. I oiled between uses and didn't have any sticking issue until the last two and they were minor. I turned it off and let it sit there and it came off later.I had more trouble turning the waffle iron over without getting burned than I expected. It is about 4lbs, and I am now glad I didn't buy the 8lb one. I want to buy silicone handle covers and also one of those little silicone edge grabbers that would work well for grabbing the hinge to turn over. Need to measure the handles first and get the right ones. I fear the handles might get hot right through the silicone, though. The interior is really rough to the point of me thinking about grinding it down, but it didn't seem to bother anything and works fine. It cooked evenier than reviews of similar I have watched, but I am an experience cast iron user. The waffle iron comes lightly seasoned. I don't know what they use, but some manufacturers recommend burning it off before starting your own seasoning process. It smelled a little funky non-food oil, and if I did it again, I would follow the advice of other manufacturers to burn it off. Then separate the plates onto separate burners and soak peanut and coconut oil in the pans on low a day in advance turning off and on and keeping low. Pour off extra and use. Use the poured off oil to lubricate between waffles. If you don't take time to season to prevent sticking, you won't be happy. Should improve with use. It works. I'm happy.

I'm in LOVE!
This is one of the most satisfying purchases I have ever made! Electric waffle makers never gave me what I wanted in a waffle, and they were always hard to clean. This cast iron waffle maker is a dream come true.I seasoned the waffle maker very well before using it. The first few waffles you make may stick, but the more you use it the less they will stick. To make the waffles, I heat the pan over medium heat, flip it over to heat the other side, open it and brush on a mixture of melted butter and oil, portion the batter, close it, flip it again, and cook for 1 and a half on bother sides. That is what works for me. The waffles are perfect and crispy on the edges.Note: the more you use it the better non-stick it gets, making sure the pan is hot enough and properly greased before pouring in the batter.

Smaller than you think it is
Nice design, sturdy, I'm sure it will work well. But it makes little tiny waffles.

very disappointed
bought 2 of these, so i could rotate between cooking and unpanning waffles. was also thinking i might be able to reverse the plates, and make flatbread... now i don't know if i can ever even use these again.oiled both before using, but both waffle irons stuck and burnt so bad, that i could not unpan the waffles. it was like they had never been cured. the batter was not the problem, considering we turned around and made beautiful johnny cakes (pancakes that puff up really think) out of the rest of the batter. perfect golden brown johnny cakes, with absolutely no sticking issues in a regular pan. whereas the irons sucked up all of the oil from both the precoat as well as from the batter, like they had been starving for oil.i will try again, after hard scrubbing off the remains of the waffles, and curing all of the plates multiple times, but i'm now quite anxious just how porous the metal must actually be, and the chance for an oil fire in the oven while curing... i will have to be extra careful while curing. if it gets too dangerous, i will have to stop, and see about a refund. Easy to clean
I was worried to try it due to seeing some negative reviews. We use other cast iron products and love it. Imports to fallow instructions before first use. Then all you need to do to avoid sticking is preheat really good both sides in low heat. place waffle batter on one side and give it a minute(almost like a pancake making), then close the other side give few more minutes and flip. I use almond flour recipes and have no issues. Just preheat all the way through and it works great. And of course clean without soap as directed.

Good overall! Tips on how to use it!!
I would understand why some people are not too happy about this product. The size is a bit small, you could say is the size of a regular pancake (6 inches). The handles are short, making it difficult to grab. I've been using cast iron for quite a while and for people that have never cooked with cast iron, it might be distressing. Follow the cleaning instruction before use. Here is how I use it:Heat it over medium/low flame (I use a gas stove). Cook one side for 2 minutes, Flip and cook other side for 3 minutes. They come out nicely browned. Hope this helps. Other than that is a great product. I enjoyed cooking using cast iron and this just became part of my special collection. My children love the size and the way the waffles look. Here is my recipe:1 cup of All-purpose flour2 teaspoons of baking powder2 tablespoons of sugar1/2 teaspoon of salt1 cup of milk1 medium/large egg1/2 teaspoon of Vanilla extract1/4 cup of vegetable oil (butter not recommended)Mix the dry ingredients, add the liquid ingredients, pour about 1/2 a cup of batter into the waffle iron.2 mins one side, 3 mins 2nd side.
