Not what I expected.
Purchased for my 7 year old nephew and it was not what I expected. The book is laid out like a school book and after each story there are multiple questions and essay sections about each story. I was looking for something he could read before bed and this just wasn't what we were looking for.

Short Stories that help reading comprehension? This book is amazing!
Reading comprehension is a tricky thing for little kids. Sometimes they think if they read a book, it’s looking at words, but when asked “What happened in the story?” the answer is a blank stare. This book is designed to help a child start the comprehension process of reading, while also having such delightful stories. So, get your elephant together, get a tissue for the sneezing vacuum and try not to blink at the barking cat. It’s time for a review of “Wacky Stories (10 Short Stories for Kids) by Julie Harper.OpinionI got an alert on my Kindle the other day, and Kindle Unlimited had sent me a cool recommend for some stories my children would like. I’m glad I picked this up, it’s on Kindle Unlimited, and my son was delighted by the cover immediately. My first impressions of this book, it’s full of some hilarious stories that any kid should find amusing. My son laughed a lot, and my daughter kept facepalming in certain situations. What I truly loved though, is that after every single story is a section that asks the reader to review what they had just read.Let’s go into a critique here, and my only critique has to do with “Story Structure, Foundation and Presentation” Portion of my scoring. The issue is that after every section of reading questions, it tells you to check the footnote at the end of the 4th question. That footnote was hit or miss to open until I un-installed and re-install the book on my Kindle. I had to do it twice. I’m not sure if the issue was software or if I had it on my Kindle too long or what, but it may not work right away, and that’s something I’m noting. If you notice that happens, just un-install and re-install, it’s super easy. Now, that said, let’s go into what I truly enjoyed about “Wacky Stories.” First and foremost, each of the short stories is a complete story for what is told. That’s wonderful. These stories not only give great details and much life, but they also have a great structure. It’s tough enough writing short stories that are complete, but to include that there are details for questions later is excellent.Second, the questions are lovely. They make the reader think about the details. The best part is that it encourages the reader to write their own story with a writing prompt. To those of you who write on Twitter specifically, you would love that. Also for the kids, it gives them an idea.Overall this is probably one of the best kind of books for a parent who is trying to help their kids to understand writing and reading. I feel this encouraged mine. My son, however, took the time to draw, and my daughter took the time to write. Every kid is different. Your kids may do something else, but I do encourage you to use it.I also want to point out, if you are a writer working on your micro-fiction and short story game, this is a lovely example of stories that can help you. The stories are about 100 - 200 words each from the look of it, and I think that alone is worth it to see if you can come up with a complete story to match. Give it a shot, and if it works, please let me know in the comments below!ScoreWith all of that in mind and the math taken into consideration, I pronounce that “Wacky Stories (10 Short Stories for Kids)” has received a score of 97/100. Pick this up for your short story fun, or possibly to get your kids to think about what they are reading!Until tomorrow my friends have the best day ever!

Short silly stories for kids
The author put together 10 silly stories to entertain children and interest reluctant readers. Each story has an element about it that is out of place. At the end of each story are reader questions so the children can review what they've just read. There is also space for the reader to make up another story or change elements of the current story. My 8 year old read the book to my 6 year old. The older one thought the book was a bit boring, but said it might be better if I'd read it using different voices. The 6 year old said it was funny and seemed to really enjoy the silliness. The vocabulary is simple enough that I think the 6 yr old will be able to read it herself soon. There are a couple of black and white pictures at the beginning of each chapter, but the book focuses mainly on the stories.I received this book free of charge from Goodreads in exchange for my honest review.
