great wood filler.
I bought this off of a recommendation from a friend and all I can say is that I love this product. It blends well with the wood and is easy to work with. I love that it is water based too.it works great as a grain filler for a smooth finish. Following the instructions on the bottle for this application, I water it down to a toothpaste consistency and spread it cross-grain across the surface of the piece I'm finishing. let it dry and sand smooth. This has improved my final finish results dramatically!

Great wood filler
I have been on the look out for a wood filler that takes a stain for a long time. I have finally found it. This product is amazing. I scoop some out onto a piece of cardboard and add stain to it while mixing with a popsicle stick. I continue to add until it matches the wood I am trying to match. I have only used it with red oak and that is the color I chose. I have not tried it otherwise. I would highly recommend this product to everyone. It does have a strange smell about but it eventually goes away

Good stuff. Stains nicely. Buy the right color though!
This stuff is neat. I like the thick peanut butter consistency, personally. I find it much more intuitive filling cracks with it than the sandy-gritty consistency of e.g. Minwax filler. It DOES smell - like contact cement. But after sanding and staining a test piece, I could hardly smell it. It certainly isn’t permeating the room. So maybe how awfully the smell persists depends on what you’ll be doing with it. Side note, it sands to a really smooth surface, which is more than can be said for grainy fillers.I just wish there was a color chart of some kind of Timbermate’s fillers. I thought hard about which to buy, since I wanted a close match for ash flooring. It wasn’t actually a bad match for my ash on bare wood. I figured after staining a honey color that the ash would match the color of the filler pretty closely too. The filler DOES absorb stain evenly, which was impressive! Unfortunately, its also terrible in my case, since the filler darkened right up with the wood, so the filled gap is obvious. I should have bought the maple / beech color I suppose? Probably.I would definitely buy again in different colors in the future. But come on, man - give us a color chart!

Excellent Product
Can't go wrong with Timbermate. Stays put, does not shrink, and takes a finish. Great for hiding flaws and brad holes.

Amazing product!
Love it as it color matches most my stock. Dries fast, easy to use. Seems to be durable and a good buy for the money!

Great Product
Nice consistency and color for filling holes etc in red oak. Takes a stain very well and blends nicely. Also the composition is such that it stayed workable right down to the bottom of the jar and did not set off or clump like other off the shelf products e.g. plastic wood.

I'm Impressed! It actually works as promised.
It did the job of filling in the small gaps on my newly installed red oak stairs. They took stain well and I really cannot see which stair I used it on any longer. I really like this stuff. The only drawback is that it really stinks...literally. It smells bad until it fully dries. Everyone noticed the smell right away. So, just plan your work until everyone is out of the house for the day and all should be fine. I am glad I found this product and it will become a regular part of my woodworking attempts in the future as I often need something to fix my little errors.

Fill for termite damage
Thought I would address a problem no one else has mentioned. on one board in a bedroom we had termite damage where I did not want to go to the expense of exchanging the whole board, so I tried to dig out some of the oak and fill with this timber mate product. (see photo) I cut out a sliver of wood to reuse and set on top of the last layer. First I use termite spray into the area I could not get to. I also used a hot hair dryer as I read that might kill any remaining live termites also. I covered the area with a rug and let it sit for months, inspecting periodically. Once I was sure there were no termites I started filling with timbermate. I realized only later that I did not have to color the first few layers. I also added water so it would fill in the tracks better but it took much longer to dry. Even though I bought the red oak color, it was not even close to my hardwood floors. Adding alot of stain also made it take longer to harden. With the last of about four fillings I set in the piece of wood I had cut out for the top layer. (see 2nd photo) It looks pretty good but not perfect. I am lucky in that it is close to a door in a room that visitors will not see, and I covered it with a rug. Afterwards I painted 2 coats of polyurethane and it seems to be holding just fine so far.
