Good for small areas; easy to use; not very wash-out resistant
Overall, this is a quick and easy repair method for bare spots. It's a combination of seed and mulch, so other than having to prepare the soil (scratch it up well so there's good ground-to-seed contact) it's a one-step repair. The mulch material is fluffy, but is easy to spread by hand without any fuss or muss. It soaks up water well and holds it in so you don't have to spend much time on keeping the seed misted as you would with regular seed. I've had good germination rates using the tall fesue version. The main shortfall is that it is not very wash-out resistant. Scotts makes another similar product that withstands a decently heavy rain without moving much at all. This, in contrast, washes out more easily so it's not the best choice for a sloped area. Even on flat ground, however, it moved a bit under heavy rain. On the plus side, this is less expensive than the other version. Not perfect, but works well enough to earn it 4 stars.

Overall, not bad.
Pros: Spreads easily, covers quite a bit, you don't have to do hardly any work to regrow the grass or prep the lawn for it, it doesn't smell (smells like wood chips), and it prevents, mostly, the birds and other animals from eating the seeds. Works great for damp areas with fresh dirt. For example, if you have a dirt patch and want to turn it into a grassy lawn, keep it moist enough and they'll grow rather quickly.Cons: if you want it to grow faster, you have to prep the lawn in dead grass areas; you gotta remove the grass, then spread the seeds. We live in San Diego, Cali, so the weather isn't overly dry or hot, but I still had to water once, daily, in the beginning, to keep the mixture moist enough to settle in; after that I water every other day or so. It takes time, so mow your lawn, then spread seeds, water, water, water, and then let it do its thing. We didn't cut the graww for 3 weeks so it had plenty of time to settle in amd that seemed to do the trick. Some areas never grew, and others flourished. It all depends on the dirt, how much sun, drainage of your yard, and how often you water. Watering doesn't need to be flooding, but just your hose on "shower" mode and a little sprinkle over the patch is fine. No different than how you would water a potter plant. The grass is a very vibrant green, soft, healthy, and overall strong. Worth the wait.Hope this all helps. Happy growing!

It's a great product.. but it's tough to keep green in the summer
Scotts makes an excellent grass but, it's tough to keep green in the Las Vegas summer (especially with current water restrictions). I've been evaluating with high heat/drought resistant grasses (but I don't want Bermuda grass).

Takes Water and Time
I was frustrated but finally see grass coming up. It took a couple of weeks and plenty of water. Give it time. Keep it watered.

Works in 7 days!
Works as described! The back part of the photo is after 7 days. The front was just laid two days ago (to show you what it looks like out of the bag). This is the only product that has worked on my lawn, which is challenged by pests and pine trees. I water twice a day. I’ve bought several bags at this point. I truly don’t understand the bad reviews! Just follow the directions and it should work, depending on your climate. (PS: Don’t be me and our fertilizer on the grass once it’s looking good. It will kill the seedlings.)
