I admit to purchasing every new recording project by Steve Turre, because I've come to expect high quality modern jazz that manages to be both accessible and adventurous, and always soulful. Thoroughly happy with this outing, too. Great players, interesting material, fine production values. It's also a testament to this relatively new recording outfit - Smoke - and it's commitment to keeping real jazz alive, in the lineage of Blue Note and Criss Cross. Well done.

I having been listening to Steve perform since around 1979 or 80. He is a virtuoso player, composer and arranger., This album reflects Turret at his fiery best. If you like you jazz to swing and wing hard Steve is your man. He incorporates the broad sound palate opened up by the Avant guard in this straight ahead session. No one will be disappointed. As the old heads used to say, this music cooks.
