Not For Lefties
Updating my review to add that once I modified it, it has been a very good and useful case, as long as I’m playing my lefty Precision. Unfortunately, my lefty Jazz bass does not fit at all. As far as I can tell, a righty Jazz bass should fit just fine. I’m still disappointed that the description and specs had no inner photos or any indication or warning that left-handed basses would not fit properly, so I’m leaving my review at 3 stars.Original review (with some edits):Seems like it would probably be a nice case if you had a right handed bass. Since there are no photos of the inside of the case, I took a chance and bought it. The top horn of my lefty Precision bass needs about an inch more space to fit. The case’s inner moulding is foam under cloth so I was able to smash it with a rubber mallet and get enough space freed up to get my bass in there. The neck and headstock are still not quite lined up as they should be so I had to fold up a few small towels to provide adequate support in strategic spots, but it works.Additionally, the tuners don’t fit well if they’re not turned in line with the headstock. This may be due to everything being a bit off center because the bass is lefty. A bit more hammering with the rubber mallet seems to have corrected this issue as well.Overall this “Guitar Research” case needs more research, or a note in the description that it is specifically designed for right handed basses. I’m keeping it because I need a lightweight solid case immediately and I can modify it to work, but if I’d known of these issues beforehand I would have gone with a different case.It is, however, impressively lightweight and seems to provide adequate protection for the average gigging musician. I wouldn’t trust it for travel where baggage handlers might be involved, but as long as I’m the one handling it, it should do the job. If you’re right handed, you’ll probably be a lot happier with it than I am.
