Nice, Neat, & Affordable !
Just recently received & assembled this 'door chest'.Jan 2010. FYI there is a huge problem in the shipping of it. It is so heavy that the box falls apart during the shipping & that should be addressed!!! It was sent back before I even got it the first time. I was not notified - I HAD TO CALL TO SEE WHERE IT WAS! But, I reordered & it arrived - AGAIN the box torn, but all pieces were there - so be aware!! It does take TIME & Patience to assemble. TWO 'CALM' heads would be helpful when doing the assembly ! :) But it does fit together nicely - drawers glide nicely, door adjusts easily.I looked around for awhile and this is a nice size, looks very nice, & really does the job for the cost.

It looks great
This chest went is very heavy in the box, about 100lbs, but once out of the box and spread out on the floor, it is neatly labeled and easy to find pieces as they are all packed very well. The box arrived in great condition and with the provided instructions and just a few tools this assembled in about an hour with just one person. I usually put this type of furniture together by using some liquid nails or other glue just to hold everything together solid and just give it a better, more sturdy assembly. That is not to say that it is not sturdy without it, because it is, but as time wears on a lot of cheaper furniture and the screw and nail connections just wear out. Once assembled it looks great. The drawers slide easy and the door opens smoothly, although the door does seem a little flimsy. It will be around for a long time and should last well past the new babies childhood.

Good for the price
I had thoroughly researched this product and read many reviews, so was not surprised at some of the issues that others had mentioned: size, cheap knobs, thin door and backing, etc. For me, the smaller size is a plus because the top can be used for more display area. What I really like about this armoire is that it serves multiple purposes and looks very nice. There are five sections behind the door for storage, which gives just enough space when I stack two columns on each shelf for my daughter's clothing. The drawers are great for socks and underclothes. The open shelf area (and the top) gives good space for display items and books; it saves the hassle of needing an extra cabinet. The color is not "pure" white, however, as stated. I have a white bunk bed and white trims for the room, and next to them, this armoire is slightly creamy or antique... very pretty, but doesn't exactly match my things. After all is put together, the armoire felt very sturdy, despite being made with mostly particle board. The instructions says to nail backing around the outside perimeter; I found that putting a few extra nails into the center wall, as well as into the two stationary shelves, makes it more sturdy and looks better (just make sure you measure correctly from the top down.) A problem that some had mentioned is the space around the door, which turned out not to be so bad after I adjusted the screws on the hinges. The design of this amoire is great! I just wish that the manufacturer doesn't use cheap feeling material for the parts that people often touch, such as the plastic knobs and the thin panel on the door. All in all, it is a good item for the price.

4 stars for looks, 3 stars because the assembly is a PITA.
This item arrived yesterday, and after having read other reviews, I was ready for it to be damaged/missing pieces and a pain to put together. Well, apparently something hit it during shipping and a few of the pieces were dented but I forged ahead. Then, I started the assembly. The person who wrote the review stating, It took 4 hours to assemble" deserves my apologies. I laughed at this person and thought, how is that possible? Well, it didn't take me 4 hours but it did take about 2.5 (Day 2 and I still have that .5 to go). You must assemble every single little piece but the instructions are pretty descriptive and if you get something wrong, it becomes apparent as assembly progresses. On thing to note, you will need a LARGE, Phillips screwdriver. I only own small ones and had to borrow one to progress with the assembly. So far, the piece looks nice and seems very sturdy. I also like that it is only 53" tall so it does not over power the other items in the babies room and I can put things on top. I would recommend this product but be prepared for a longer processing/shipping time and be prepared to spend a good portion of an afternoon putting it together.

Easy to Assemble
This is a very strong piece of furniture. It was easy to assemble. Identifying the parts was a little difficult. 2 screws looked exactly alike in the instructions but were different lengths. I could only tell them apart by comparing the quantity so not difficult really, just could be a bit easier. Took about an hour by my female, 54 year old self.I love the piece. It was just what I needed for spare bedroom. I forgot what it is advertised as but I am using it to store sheets and pillows mostly for a spare room that one dog uses to sleep in. She likes to tear up pillows.

Not proportionate with the other South Shore Savannah Collection pieces
Purchased the door chest to match the other South Shore Savannah Collection pieces (night stand and dresser/changing table). I regrettably did not verify the door chest measurements before ordering so that's my fault. However, had I known this door chest would be SO grossly disproportionate to the matching night stand and dresser/changing table, I would NEVER NEVER have ordered this piece. The door chest's 2 drawers are 1/4 the size of the dresser/changing table, it's only 25% taller than the dresser changing table and looks like it's intended for a "little person." Unlike the night stand and dresser/changing table which DO NOT look like it's intended for a "little person" but rather an adult. It doesn't flow with the furniture at all.As for quality, I knew ahead it'd be cheap particle board furniture that'll sustain only 2-3 years of good use. It's pretty to look at and definitely matches the style of the Savannah collection pieces and our Graco Charleston crib but it's simply just not the right size.
