Required for air gap but you need other items
Very useful and a requirement for a soundproofing project you might have. So in my situation I had a room already with a wall. I put a layer of mass loaded vinyl on it, metal studs, 3 inch safe and sound Or thermafiber, the metal hat channel on the metal studs with rubber holders. Then quiet rock with mass loaded vinyl on the back. Huge difference

The Channel worked great but the sound improvement was not there even with Quiet rock and sound isolaters.

Did not receive the same hat channels as pictured
The hat channels that I ended up receiving (after a bunch of shipping issues) are not the same as pictured in the product description. They are identical in dimension, gauge, and quantity, but most notably are missing the "dimpling" on the flat side of the channels that the drywall will attach to. The dimpling serves a function to help the screw heads not interfere with the drywall by sticking out too much, so without it I will have drywall that won't be sitting flush in areas where I've had to join two channels with screws.I'm going to attempt to use them anyway and hopefully will have minimal issues, but it is frustrating for sure to not receive the same product as advertised.
