Sweet story... I like Grace Livingston Hill. She writes from a century and a way of life that no longer exists ... most folks prefer more modern story lines and language....I prefer the quaint old stuff!!!! ( no foul language either or compromising scenarios)

Grace Livingston Hill has a touch of the divine in her writing that seeps in naturally all about the scenes and dialogues and characters. When you open her books, it is like walking into the door of a room from a hundred years ago and imbibing the fineness of character and soul that fights for a woman's honor and purity with tenderness and strength of conviction that carries through impenetrable barriers with a prayer and a hope in the dark. When her heroines break forth into the light of a sudden victory over mean-spirited people who harass them and torture their souls, the reader feels like jumping up and dancing for sheer joy that the man of Christ has conquered the fearsome devils that threaten his lady, and they are free together to cherish one another in a heavenly and gentle nurturing that adds a nobility and benediction to all of their days. You will never be sorry that you read a Grace Livingston Hill book. I love her so much and have had so many uncanny, miraculous encouragement from her that I titled my blog after her, GraceLivingstonHillGirl.com and I find her example inspiring me every day with goodness and beauty even in mundane duties.

This book is such a sweet book. It has romance and it clearly shows the path to Jesus through salvation. I love the characters and the engaging story. I recommend this book to anyone. My grandfather even used to read my grandmother’s copies of Grace Livingston Hill.

I have read her books at least 6 times each. Am so thrilled to find them on kindle, even though I own all her books kindle is easy to read in bed & take the places. Her books are beautifully written and romantic. Love reading how people survived during the depression with what they had. Beautiful how people find God.

Wonderful book that is wholesome to read. No surprise swear words that you have to try to "read around". Sometimes you can stray from the way you were brought up and it affects your children. Forgetting God and allowing your spouse to influence you to go another way in this story has horrible consequences for the children. But the father finds his way back thanks to his children.

Beautiful example of young people who think they are in love based on having the same level in society and excusing bad behavior because you think, you're in love.The story is well told and the after story is even better. It was surprising that people will still excuse something sordid by dressing up the circumstances and acting as if nothing bad had ever happened. The family of the young man could have used a lot of soul searching and introspection to recover from the loss of their son.I liked the story and the result of learning to develop and lean on faith, rather than following what the in crowd is doing.

I collect Grace Livingston Hill and Emilie Loring books. I love finding some available on Kindle. I found several mistakes and typos in this book, but can overlook them for the convenience of having an old favorite on my Kindle.The Gloria Sutherland's world came crashing down when her fiancé and another girl were killed by a jealous lover, just a few days before their expected marriage. She found a new hope and new life in a New England farmhouse. It is really one of her more exciting stories, though I have other favorites.

What a privilege to read a well written story with characters who inspire. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a book that you don't want to put down.
