Nice Yoga Intro. My First Kindle Download!
I bought this book because the price is so low on Kindle ($2.87).This is my first ever downloaded electronic book (Kindle for PC)."Yoga for Backache" was first published in 2005 and released on electronic form in 06-15-2013 by Carrmine Ireene. The author was raised in India and devotes the book to her cherished grand-mom, Mai.Instead of pages electronic books have a "location" number that seems to work like a page number. This book has 1141 "location numbers".This book has an Epilogue and 14 chapters:1. Intro (backache causes,... purpose of the book)2. Spine (concise anatomy & function of the back)3. Body Alignment (Postural problems & Corrections)4. Yoga Axiom (Importance of a healthy spine, basic explanation of yoga concepts & terms)5. Yoga Therapy - Cervical (16 nameless exercises/postures for neck and shoulders)6. Yoga Therapy - Thoracic / Dorsal Spine (Pose variations of Cobra, Cat Camel, Reclining Hero, Upward Plank, Bharadvaja's Twist 1, and seated lotus mountain pose)7. Yoga Therapy - Lumbar (Cat, Upward Facing Dog, Reclining Single-Leg Lift, Locust Pose variations, Bow, Plow, and Half Lord of the Fishes Pose8. Annayoga - Food for your spine: Food Pyramid, importance of nutrition, foods to avoid (sugar, salt, alcohol...), fasting and detoxifying diet, a cleansing and rejuvenating diet10. Importance Of Minerals, Trace Elements And Vitamins For The Spine11. Kamayoga - Sex and the Spine12. Backache and the Legs (Tree pose, King Dancer variations, Chair, Triangle, Warrior II, Mountain Pose, Standing Waist Rotating Poses, Single Leg Balance, Standing Side Stretch13. Jivasanthulana (Quest of the Divine Body) Explanation of more yoga terms: 5 koshas, 5 pranas, Pranayamas, 5 Nagadivayus, Great Seal Seated Pose14. Conclusion (acknowledgement of important people in her journey to publish her book.)I highly recommend this book as a nice intro to someone not familiar with yoga, because it is concise and simple. The black & white photos are clear, without background clutter. This book is especially useful to someone looking for a nice series of neck & shoulder exercises that can be performed sitting down. There are some standing poses in chapter 12 that can be performed at an office, if one is wearing stretchy pants. There are basic yoga poses to strengthen the thoracic and lumbar back with modifications and props showing easier versions of poses. Most of these require a mat, very stretchy clothes, and props (optional pillows/ chair.)I would rate it a 5, except that poses are in Sanskrit names, which are meaningless to someone who does not know Sanskrit. I tried to find an English translation for each, but was unsuccessful for some of the names.
