I purchased this cooling mat to take to the beach this summer for my dog to lay on and cool off under the tent. He's a shepherd mix with a double coat which is supposed to help cool him off naturally, but I worry sometimes that with all that fur, he'll overheat. I pulled it out early to get him used to it before we get to the beach next month so he will be familiar with it and know that it's there for him to lay on. So far the mat seems fine. It's very thin and flimsy, so I could see it not lasting for too terribly long if heavily used, but for ~$10 I'm okay with that. My dog does seem to gravitate to the pad when he's ready to lay down for a break, but the real test will be at the beach. I don't think there's any special "technology" here to keep him cool. I think it's basically just the fabric - similar to feeling silk sheets vs. cotton sheets, the silk just naturally feels cooler to the touch. That's what I equate this to, but I'm hoping that it will at least be better than a hot towel that's been in the sun when we get to the beach. I haven't washed it yet, but I'm definitely planning to wash it on the gentle cycle and air dry if/when I do. Overall for the price, I'm happy and I think it will serve it's purpose for my dog. But if you're looking for some incredibly advanced cooling mat that will actively cool your dog for long periods of time, this probably isn't it.

It really is cool to the touch. It came quickly, I like the color, and I wash it like a regular blanket and it doesn’t lose the soft ease coolness. So I’d say I’m pleased with my purchase.Most people expect it to magically give off a cool breeze or something. But it’s just cool enough to chill the skin pressed to it. My smaller dog loves it but my hairy dogs don’t seem to care much for it. Also it slides all over and bunches up with any friction. So while the little dog loves to burrow in it, the larger ones can’t seem to keep it flat and still long enough to put their belly on it.Overall it’s as described and great quality for the price. But if you want something padded with a gel cooling technology that will stay put when you lay it down and when it’s walked on—this is not what you want.

I actually bought this for my cat. My room doesn't get much air conditioning and can be kinda warm. He took over a pillow case I had left on the bed and I realized it was because it was cooler than my quilt so I bought this for him instead. He came to check it out and as soon as he figured out it was cool laid right down and rolled over!

Does seem to do any cooling. My dog does not use it at all.
