A gift for a woodworker who wants to work with wood split with grain rather than cross grain. I bought a wood working mallet to go with it.

Seriously, the handle snapped during the third split of the first piece of white birch. 8” diameter. I’ll be contacting the seller. Literally 3 minutes into first use it broke

The picture is what it looked like after striking the back of the froe twice with a wooden mallet. No, I did not hit the handle, no I was not prying with the handle. It just was that dry rotted that it disintegrated. Do not buy.

This is a response to the complaint re the snapping handle. No doubt it was going to break in any event, but one look at the product picture in the Amazon ad and you can see the handle is placed exactly wrong. It should be rotated 90 degrees so the end grain is perpendicular to the blade - it's much less likely to break that way. Hammer and ax handles (and wooden baseball bats) should be oriented this way as well (growth rings pointing in the direction of the force exerted) for the same reason.Also, if the blade is forged in one piece instead of welded that's a plus, assuming the metal is of good quality.
