Superb Tomato Flavor
San Marzano imported Italian tomatoes are supposed to be the best according to the Food Network stars. I tried these and I have to agree that their flavor surpasses any American brands. Although they don't have the official government stamp of authenticity, I would recommend them. They're packed in a rich tomato puree and reasonably priced compared to other Italian brands. They arrived dent free but not in 2 days as the prime labeling promised.

True San Marzano tomatoesbut without the Unimportant DOC Stamp
I made Cioppino with these tomatoes yesterday and let the broth refrigerate overnight. Added fish and shellfish today and served over home made linguine accompanied with garlic toast. Rave views by people all commenting on the rich, deep flavor of the tomato-based broth. It's true that the brand does not have the "DOC" stamp but they are true Pomodoro variety tomatoes grown in the Cambria region of Italy and have all the flavor of any DOC stamped brands at at least half the price. Another big plus is the coated liner of the can that prevents a "tinny" flavor generally found with canned tomatoes. Do yourself a favor and buy a case of these, you will thank yourself for such a wise purchase. Unless you wish to pay about double the price for Muir Glen brand U.S. made tomatoes, you will not find an equal. There are also non-DOC brands of aged Balsamic vinegar that echo the same accolades as this brand of tomatoes.

Love Love Love!
My fave tomatoes. Carmelina brand canned tomatoes are sweet, juicy and delicious. The difference is that they are vine ripened and the color is the vibrant red of a fresh tomato. Also, no hard yellow, unripe stem ends! They are great for any dish requesting tomatoes, including making a quick and easy pizza sauce by pureeing them with garlic, s&p and basil.

I would have rated 5 stars, except for the fact that I ordered 14.28 oz cans and was sent 28 oz cans without explanation. I specifically wanted the 14.28 oz cans because I mainly use these to make one pizza. Now I will have left over canned tomatoes every time.

This is an excellent product. It is NOT "D.O.P." (it IS imported from Italy) but it is indistinguishable from the D.O.P. brands I've tried and much cheaper if you can't get them locally. And what makes it very desirable to me is the 14 oz cans. Most D.O.P. San Marzano tomatoes come in 28 oz cans but I want a size that works well for sauce for a ½ lb serving of pasta and that's the 14 oz can. Try these as I do for Al Matriciana or Putanesca sauce and I think you'll be as delighted as I am.

Terribly disappointed.
I was looking forward to tasting these tomatoes after reading so many positive reviews. Using as couple of cans, I made a quick pasta sauce, usually very good, and it was awful. It tasted primarily of tin can. Metallic and mediocre. Can't tell if tomatoes are old or just poorly made. The rest of the case is going to the food bank. It's edible, but we won't be using it. Pity.

The Real Deal
If San Marzano whole peeled tomatoes are as essential to you as they are to me, and you're having trouble finding your regular stuff, no worries. These tomatoes will not disappoint. Delicious, and they work well, very well, in all of my recipes (mainly for marinara).I recommend them!
