Heart of Flames
Heart of Flames follows the growth of Veronyka as a warrior and finding out more th truths to her identity. It picks up shortly after where Crown of Feathers left all. You can not read These books out of order. You would be lost and confused because you’d of missed out on some key facts. So the perks of this book was the action scenes are superb. They are so detailed that you feel the flames of Phoenix as you read the words. HoF does not disappoint on action. The characters growth was remarkable, watching each ones grow as teams and as individual was harmonious. I enjoyed the dialogues and the hint of romances. But what drug it down just slightly was the between, filler whatever you want to call it. The writing that lead to the dynamic action scenes. It didn’t balance so well. It felt slow, and not so much like a build up. It was almost like walking and smacking into a wall of fire that just suddenly shot up from the ground. There was no gradual build. It was either slow or fast.Overall though I’m please without how the story unfolded and am waiting my year for the next release.Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

An incredible sequel
Heart of Flames is a monster of a book, but with its twists, turns, and betrayals, as well as the break-neck pace of the writing, it certainly doesn't feel like a 600 page book. I couldn't put it down or look away. Heart of Flames is an epic sequel to COF. Veronyka has gotten her wish: she is training to become a Master Rider. All the while, the intrigues of the empire are churning. Veronyka must master her shadow magic and contend with her growing connection and feelings for Tristan as she tries to find her place in the world. She must also contend with her sister/aunt Avalkyra, who is determined to have Veronyka by her side as she retakes her empire. After learning a stunning secret about her own identity, Veronyka must step up and become the Phoenix Rider she was meant to be, lest the entire world she knows goes up in flames. I loved Heart of Flames, especially what I call familial intrigue between Veronyka and Avalkyra. I also loved the forbidden romance aspect here. This series is strikingly original and vast in scope that the conception of it is just mind-blowing. HOF is an ode to duty, love, and chosen family. If you loved COF, you'll be over the moon with HOF.

(Crown of Feathers #2)
This book left me in awe and needing more! After the events of book one Crown of Feathers, (which I adored) I was worried a squeal wouldnt live up to my expectations. Trust me, there is no need to worry about that. Heart of flames goes above and beyond. There was so much action, emotion and romances. We see so much character development especially Veronyka and Sev. As always Val is such an interesting character to read you want to hate her but love her at the same time.Since reading Crown of feathers I have been recommending it to everyone and will be doing the same with Heart of flames. I cant wait for the next book and to see where these amazing characters take us.

Daughter LOVES this series.
My 10 year old daughter LOVES this series. She has said nothing inappropriate is in the books. She is an accelerated reader so I can't keep up with her and rely on the reviews to select books for her. She will read these books for hours. She loves these kinds of fantasy books which are hard to find with appropriate content for her age!

Great Sequel
Such a great sequel! The middle books of a series can suffer from "middle book syndrome," but not this one. Pau Preto increased everything I loved about Crown of Feathers from opening up the world to the character dynamics. (This book also has one of my new favorite romantic pairings ever.) There's a balance of action sequences and quiet moments.

Complex and Compelling
It's been awhile since I've read a book that could make me happy, triumphant, sad, and angry all at the same time. The author's use of politics and history give the book's events depth and meaning, all the while making it a very entertaining read along with the characters and action. The antagonist is complex, with the protagonists being the same. I am so glad I fell in love with this series, and cannot wait for the next book!

Incredible sequel
This is the sequel to Crown of Feathers and it was just as good as the first book 😍Oh man I love this series so much.In this book we see Veronyka, our MC, mature and accept her identity, we see her grow her powers, accept the love she deserves and turn on the toxic relationships in her life.Tristan and Sev also do a lot of growing up, realising their roles in the world, and what it means to be a 'hero'.I loved seeing more of Sparrow and Elliot's chapters were a nice change up! I also appreciated Val's POV chapters, although it didn't make me like her any more 😅We got some heritage revelations, power expansions, a couple of kisses (finally) and a lot more insight into personal and political history of this world.I just... I NEED book three, like, now. Also, can some of the amazing artists on here read these books and do some fanart please because I'm Not ready to let go of this world (and I cannot draw) 😭Nicki thank you for this world and especially these wonderful inclusive characters.I'll just be sat here eagerly awaiting book 3... 😭🥰CW: war, death, slavery, hostages, forced marriage, burning

My fav book of the year!
What a magnificent way to continue with a new fav series!I will predict that this is my favorite book of the year ‘cause I honestly don’t see myself loving another book like I did with this. For free-spoiler purpose I can’t say a lot but let’s just say that I fully enjoyed Tristan and Veronika’s relationship and development and they’re my new favorite power couple! –I actually have a crush on Tristan, so there is that, lol. We also see Kade and Sevro trying to fix their wrongs and somehow help the cause they believe in –I just hope they don’t get caught in the crossfire since we have an upcoming war.We also get introduced to a bunch of Phoenix Riders and, just like the first book, we see the Phoenixes being the best partners ever! I love how every single one of them is quite different from another and how their bond with their riders makes them particularly stronger.Talking about magic, I believe this is one of my favorite things in the book because we see it being performed by different characters with diverse purposes and meanings. Sparrow, for example, is a blind child, yet, she knows more than the eye can tell. Nika too, accepts that her magic is powerful and instead of hating it because of Val’s influence, she’s trying to learn how to use it without harming others. Tristan, Elliot and the other phoenix riders are quite entertaining to watch too!Overall, I fully enjoyed the book, all of the characters’ interaction and even the politics and the war-drama that’s coming up. Even Val, I believe that we saw an important part of her and though I do not agree with her actions, I kind of understand where she’s coming from.In a few words, this book has a nice character development, the pacing is perfect considering the plot, thus I believe this was the perfect execution it could have. We actually see all of them training and fail at times. We see characters trying to do their best, even if that means sacrificing themselves. It brings the question of what love, family and bravery means and truth is… these feelings and convictions don’t have a simple meaning –it’s all different for everybody. It’s obvious for me to say that I totally recommend this book and that I really can’t wait to read the conclusion to this amazing story!

Awesome sequel to an awesome book
(I won an ARC in an Instagram giveway)It is no secret that I usually don't like romance in fantasy books, but I can say that Heart of Flames did the romance exactly the way that I would want it to be.It is not the focus of the book by any means, we have the phoenixes, the family struggles, the spying, the phoenixes, the beautiful world, the twisty revelations (oooooh they are twisty!), the phoenixes (there are many). However, the romance stuck to me because I feel like when it's "obvious" that a romance will happen, the author usually makes it too deep too soon, but that didn't happen with this book. It's a slow burn, sure, but it's much more than that, you can feel the angst and, most importantly to me, the friendship building. On top of that, I felt like Veronyka developed so much and became a person that I am very interested to see in the final book! And the ending makes me want the third book as soon as possible, please!
