Simple to use
I purchased this to prove I was not imagining changes in our led ceiling fan/light. Whenever we dim the light to not be so intense, we noticed that after a period of time, the room would be brighter.I was able to prove that the lights get brighter by themselves, which means a defective control on our light. This tool was inexpensive, and it helped prove me right!

An Excellent meter for measuring light levels
The meter has been calibrated using a standard light source so readings should be accurate. It's very easy to use and covers a very wide range of light intensities.

Accurate
Came with easy to follow directions, very lightweight, made of sturdy materials and I use it in my grow tent. I would definitely recommend for other because of its ease of use.

Very basic
I had been using a phone app to measure light intensity for Amazon reviews, but I wasn't sure I trusted it. For $20 this looked like a good possibility for accuracy and consistency. Well, maybe.Good:• Photo-sensing head rotates 180°. Allows you to "aim" at the source and still read the screen.• Four Modes : Realtime, Hold, Max, Min.• Lux or Foot-candles. Defaults to Lux.• Backlit screen. Actually, I hadn't noticed this and gave that lack a "Negative", then saw the website and that it was backlit. Press and hold the temp button! Nice.Uncertain:• Accuracy. Generally reads lower than my phone for LEDs and slightly higher for "natural" light (e.g., sunlight and incandescent). It also bounces around somewhat for LEDs, but that may be an LED artifact.• When it boots, the screen shows speeds and RH. One size fits all? See photo. Not so good:• The "temperature" is the ambient temp, not the light's color temp. I'm not sure that I care what the room's temp is. For me, the light's temp is important in reviews.• If you do care what the ambient temp is, the system always defaults to °C.• Auto-powers off unexpectedly. I haven't delved into this much, just happened to notice that I thought I was getting a measurement, but wasn't.All in all, I'd now probably spend a few more dollars and get something a bit better, with light temp. I find I'm still using my phone app for measurements.Edit Feb 2021: I now see that the manufacturer specifies "grow lights" and "room temp". Not quite what I was told initially, but you are now forewarned.

Standard light meter that measures in lux or FC. Needs 3 AAA batteries not included
I needed a light meter to try to determine how high to mount a grow light. This is only a lux meter so it does not measure the full spectrum of light and it isn't the best choice for measuring LED lights. Lux measures light as perceived by the human eye. For plants you need a PAR meter, but those cost 10 times or more than this meter. For my use, I just want to know about how high to mount a light above seedlings and there are converter calculators online. It isn't a perfect result but close enough so that my plants won't burn.I have a few different brands of led and halogen lights. I didn't purchase this for checking those, but it's good to see which of those are brightest also.

Did not work
Pulled it out of the package and put in a fresh set of batteries and started to check my light sources. I have a photographers light meter but purchased this one for the green house. This meter was reading vastly different outputs for the same type of light source compared to my other meter. Then decided to check the temperature reader. Not even close. Home smart thermostat was reading at 72 degrees and left this meter to adjust for 30min but still read 82 degrees. Then I took it to my basement bathroom that sits at a cool 65-68 degrees and left it in there for 30min to adjust and it read 81 degrees. Sending it back and going to try a different brand.
