A Good Start
As a soy-free, gluten-free vegan, it is difficult to find good resources. For Street's foray into such white space, I am thankful. Be aware that the "Virgin" in her title refers specifically to the J. J. Virgin diet, to which she refers both appreciatively and (mildly) critically, and does not refer to organic or natural eating, generically. There are far too many definitions of "clean" eating to assume mine as the status quo, and since it's hard to know these things without buying the book to peruse, I'll share what I wanted to know before I ordered.1/3 of the vegan main course recipes rely on processed foods (gf pasta or tortillas), so if you don't use these, the category includes ten options. Some of the recipes call for all-purpose gluten-free flour, various starches and xanthan gum, and some call for protein powder. (5 out of 10 breakfast recipes call for at least one of the above. 2 out of 10 are not grain-based.)Street bears great categories for soups, salads and sides among other offerings (see Table of Contents). Good variety is expressed in vegetables chosen, and flavors range from around the world. As these can be used for an entire meal in many cases (sometimes through combination), these categories are the jazzy boon for me, though I do wish more of the recipes offered ideas beyond what I already prepare. This is a good, basic book if you are new and need a really solid base from which to build. I repeat: this is a really solid base from which to build. If you have already been making various dal, squash pasta and cauliflower rice, you may be a bit disappointed... but you will still likely find some new paths to trod.I like that Street encourages experimentation and making the recipes one's own. This is a slim paperback, without technique instruction or photos, but offers some good flavor and substance pairings that can give you a rest from stalking every food blog on the internet. I paid about $10 for this book, which I believe is a fair price.

Perfect for vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores who want to cook something interesting for ALL their friends
This is not your usual kind of cookbook. Each recipe is unique and there are not a myriad versions of one thing. The recipes are grouped as breakfast, soups, salads, main courses, sides, snacks, desserts, seafood dishes, and drinks. And each section has a short introduction that is informative as well as entertaining. I love that each recipe has the number of calories, and that there are low calorie but delicious desserts as well as snacks (both being high on my list of "must have"s). I can't wait to try the chocolate truffles (60 calories) and the apple cranberry crumble (250 calories). I am excited at the thought of finally being able to cook an interesting dinner for my vegan friend, and this will be my birthday present to all my vegetarian friends this year. Thank you, Rachelle Street, for this great cookbook!

Disappointing
I guess it was just too much of a stretch to come up with 100 recipes...page 50 Enchilda Lasagna?! In your own words, "This is one of the few dishes I feel needs dairy to be truly amazing" - That's real encouraging to want to try it any other way. Disappointing. And when is honey not considered a sugar as well as Black strap molasses. Might want to consider looking at other cookbooks.

THE BEST
Not all cookbooks contain useable recipes but this one does. I've made multiple deliteful meals from it. And didn't doctor anything. For the price a no brainer and a keeper. Soulful and good. The one negative review? Huh? Says PESCETARIANS in the title. DUH!

Please take the word VEGAN out of the title!
The author clearly doesn't understand the vegan diet. A cookbook for pescetarians is not a cookbook for vegans. I have no desire to own a cookbook with multiple fish recipes and honey recipes and who knows what other non-vegan recipes. Please rename your book. For those upset about a poor review from one who has not tried cooking from the book, please understand how frustrating it is to be misled that this book is for me and my loved ones, when it clearly is not.
