I recently purchased the TP-Link MR-100 4G router, and it has been a great addition to travel internet setup. If you’re looking for a no-frills option to get reliable internet without broadband, this router is a solid pick. What I Like About It: Quick and Easy Setup: Just insert your 4G SIM, plug it in, and you’re ready to go—no technical expertise required. Reliable for Streaming and Browsing: Delivers steady speeds that are great for Netflix, YouTube, and even light gaming. Decent Range: 2.4Ghz - Covers my villa well, even with multiple walls in between. Wired Connectivity: Ethernet ports are a big plus for devices that work better with a stable wired connection. You can choose between 4G & Wireless mode (WAN port is also available) Portable and Lightweight: Perfect for travel or as a backup internet solution. Indian 4G Bands – Key to Better Speeds: The MR-100 supports major Indian LTE bands used by providers like BSNL, Jio, Airtel, and Vi. Here’s a quick breakdown: Example : (Varies by network operator) Band 40 (2300 MHz): Best for high-speed 4G in cities and urban areas. Band 3 (1800 MHz): A versatile band offering a balance of speed and coverage, suitable for semi-urban and rural areas. Band 5 (850 MHz): Perfect for rural areas or places with weak signals due to its excellent range and wall penetration. Pro Tip: For the best speeds, you might need to manually test and lock the router to specific bands. The router automatically switches between bands, but manually tweaking can make a big difference depending on your location and carrier. A Note About Speed Complaints: While researching, I noticed many people in the comments complained about slow speeds, likely because they didn’t understand how to manually tweak the bands. If you’re unfamiliar, look up guides or tutorials to help you configure the bands. It’s not difficult, and it’s definitely worth the effort to get optimal speeds. Final Thoughts: The TP-Link MR-100 is a great 4G router, especially for users who don’t want the hassle of broadband. It’s reliable, portable, and works well once you set it up correctly. Spend some time adjusting the bands for your area, and you’ll see the performance improve significantly. Highly recommended for both primary and backup internet needs! PS : I'm an expert in tweaking routers & setting good configurations. Please do understand how the bands work and network congestions before you start complaining something. Be realistic of urban vs rural internet speeds. Buying a MR-200 or upper models won't resolve the speed issues in your area. If you are having low speeds even after tweaking, it's only due to congestion/unavailability of superior bands in your area.

I had a very major doubt about the compatibility of this router with the Reliance Pro 3 (ZTE AC 2791) data card that I use. I went through the websites of TP-Link, DP Link I ball and Netgear – but nowhere in their sites could I find an answer to that question.Spoke to their helplines too – but all these guys manning the helplines refer to the same websites I guess – so they were unable to help me out. Also spoke Reliance customer care to answer to this doubt and asked them to provide me with a list of compatible routers but they too were not able to give any such list. The Reliance helpline confused me further saying that this was not a 3G connection, it was a datacard instead.That is when I got an inkling that 3G dongles are different from datacards. They suggested that I go the nearest Reliance store and pick up a router from there – that would be compatible. So I went to a Reliance web world outlet only to be told that they had no routers in stock. The guy there said that I can pick up any TP-Link router since they were all compatible. When I told him that the compatibility lists for 3G routers given in the TP-Link website did not mention show any equipment compatible with ZTE AC 2791, he could not help me any further. So I went to the nearest IT store – and asked them. The guy sitting there knew even less than I did. The first equipment that he showed me as suitable was an ADSL 2 router. I had to tell him that 3G routers are different from ADSL 2 routers. He then put me in touch with a TP-Link contact who spoke to his IT team (supposedly) and got back telling me that none of their routers support this card, but if I was willing to take a risk, I could go ahead and buy it. Apparently there was a 50% chance that it may work. But no returns if it did not. Searched the net extensively for an answer, but while a few people had posted this question earlier, there were no convincing answers that I could find. Only saving grace was that there were a number of posts that said that it turned out to be compatible with their dongles/datacards although not mentioned in the compatibility lists. So went ahead and purchased from Amazon on the calculation that I would return if it if it turned out to be incompatible. Once received tried all tricks including firmware updates from the website but while my laptop showed wifi signals at full strength, it would not connect to the net. Called TP-Link helpline – but it is always busy, they never reply (try it out before buying any TP-link product, the no is 18002094168). Finally sent them an email and they replied by sending me a firmware update . This update is not readily visible on their website (at least I could not see it). I updated it and followed the accompanying instruction sheet for configuring the router – and voila! It began to work! The thing to note is that you need to mail these guys your problem and the ISP/dongle model, receive the relevant firmware update and then configure the router. In the case of Reliance connections while configuring the service provider details, it is important that you key in the number, APN, username and password manually (the instruction sheet received with the router tells you to use the autofill option. Its o ly when I recd the update and the fresh configuration instructions by mail that I realized this). The dial up number is #777 and the username and pw are both your 10 digit datacard number. About the router – its ok for a small house (I use it in a 1000 sqft apartment). But in order to get a good signal strength all through the house, you need to place it in a deliberate manner. Speed is good and although TP-Link customer service needs vast improvement (begin to answer your hotline for starters), the equipment seems ok. Its fallen off its perch twice in the last 24 hrs, but is still connecting me to the internet without any hassles.

Bought their SIM card router and does not work in Canada. There are only fixed settings and cannot be changed. I returned this by insured mail and never got a refund. When I enquired about this they replied : June 14, 2024 Dear Customer, Thank you for your email. We have contacted our carrier for a tracking number. Please allow 48/72H to come back to you. Best regards, Mirela Customer Care Team Rarewaves I WILL NOT BUY FROM THEM EVER AGAIN - I RETURNED THEIR ITEM - THEY TOOK MY MONEY AND HAVE THEIR ITEM BACK TO RESELL AGAIN. I DID NOT GET ANY REFUND ON MONIES OWING. THEY ARE A SCAM.

I got this setup with a supplementary data sim using circles life. It worked out of the box without any configuration. Deafult SSID and password were mentioned at the bottom of the router. Plug and play. Would recommend.
