This brush works incredibly well at thinning out the winter coat and removing mattes! Reviews that say the cat is in pain when removing mats are very likely trying to do it too quickly. The instructions are clear that it requires short strokes and may take several sittings. Use the side with fewer teeth, be gentle, and have patience! It's a great tool, not a magic wand defying the nature of hair. My only warning is that you may need to change clothes for/after a brushing session! Using it on my long-haired ragdoll coming out of winter looks like a cotton candy machine spitting out clouds of hair! And there's no mechanism on this brush for collecting the hair. It just flies. I recommend giving your cat a once-over with a bristled brush when you're done, to pick up the remaining loose bits.

Works great on my short haired cat. It really loosens up the mats on back legs so I can totally remove with slicker brush. There isn’t much pull so my cat enjoys the process. Thank you!

I absolutely love this! I no longer have pets, but my landlords, long-haired cat stays at my place a lot. This brush has been so helpful with combing and deshedding him.

Really works well on my medium haired cat if you follow directions and the mats are not too wide. Excellent for cats with undercoats. Well tolerated by my "diva" cats. Good value. Would give 5 stars but a lot of hair has to be "caught" as it's flying around or still on the cat (as opposed to fully accumulating in the comb).

I have a long-haired cat that was adopted from a hoarding situation. He does not like to be picked up or handled in any way and is COVERED with mats that ordinary brushes or combs won't remove. I ordered this dematting tool with low expectations. It turned out to be a MIRACLE device! I can't believe how easily it removes mats. In 2 days I've gotten about half the mats out of him. He hates it, or course, but I don't believe it causes pain. My other cats who are short-haired and have no mats LOVE to be combed with it. This was well worth the (low) price! I would highly recommend for a matted cat. I would give it 10 stars if I could.

This is a great brush for my long hair older cat that I am having trouble keeping up with her matting. First time I tried it, took out massive amounts of dead fur and cut right through small to medium size tangled knots without any real squawking from my cat. I was pleased, to say the least. Using it now to maintain a smooth coat.

I just got this and used it twice. So far so good. I was able to get a few mats out of my cats fur on her hind end and she actually purred thru her grooming. She doesnt do that with any of the other brushes I have. So im going to give this a neutral rating since I haven't had it long and update later.

OMG! And Wow is all I can say. I don't usually leave reviews but this is the best comb ever. I have a long haired cat and I bought it for her matting. Well, the amount of undercoat that's coming out is unreal. I thought we would have to get her shaved to keep her matting under control. I wish I took a before and after picture.

Better than expected

This worked really well to remove mats on an older car that does not enjoy being brushed. It works quickly, so not a fight to get those pesky mats out.

Works great for long haired cats.
