This item just didn't help me to locate my valves. Seller disagreed with me, but was gracious enough to give me a credit at the product didn't work for m. I've read that some of these devices may not work well with RainBird valves, that may have been my case, not sure.

It was easy to use because the instructions were well written in plain English. The unit performed flawlessly on our Rainbird irrigation system. First, after turning "off" the main water valve to the sprinklers, you disconnect the zone to be tested. Attach the "box" using the supplied alligator clips on wire to the "controller" and one to the free wire going to the "valve" in the zone under test. THE CONNECTION TO BOTH MUST BE CLEAN AND FIRM. I believe this is where previous writers went wrong however, in their defense, the line length from the valve to the controller (resistance) and the connection at the valve also play a role the the line shorter the louder the clicks. Keep it connected cleanly and firmly so it will produce the most current to the valve under test. I haven't hooked it to an oscilloscope yet but its probably a simple saw tooth wave generation circuit. Good hunting!

Complete waste of money. The "chatter" is barely audible, even if you know where the valves are. JUNK!!!!!!

Used this to locate a rain bird valve which was buried at least 4 inches under the lawn surface. Despite our house being close to a lot of expressway traffic noise, I found the valve in less than 5 minutes. I had to crawl around a while….but once I got closer to the spot, the noise was loud enough for me to go straight to the valve cover. I had spent hours earlier with a long screwdriver, so was very happy that this worked so quickly. Worked well for me.

This product worked great. I bought a house that had been foreclosed on with an expensive sprinkler system which had been neglected. There was a missing underground box with 2 solenoids in it. Before buying this item I had been searching for the missing box for at least a month. This device allowed me to find the underground box in under 10 minutes. The missing box ended up being about 4" underground and underwater. Even so, the sound that this device made allowed me to find it. Highly recommended.

Saved me from digging up any more of my yards looking for the valve

Found three buried valves in my back yard! I was impressed. Valve noise is a buzzing sound but I waited to find the valves at 9 pm. I could feel and hear the movement directly on the spot where my valves had been buried for years!
