I love it, Pyg loves it
I love it, Pyg loves it!!! Pyg is my 6 month old violet chinchilla and it took him all of two minutes to sniff it out and start using it. he has literally been running on it and popcorning all over since i installed it about an hour ago. I got this to replace the silent spinner I had. It was the 12in. Giant size. I had it left over from when I had a hamster. He never chewed it but he had made it pop apart a few times and he was already starting to have to stick his head out so I decided it was finally time to upgrade. This was the biggest wheel I could find. It seems to be very well made and works with my Ferret nation cage. Since it is metal and there is only slight grooving in the sides of the pan he sometimes slips out when he randomly popcorns but he seems to enjoy that because he just keeps going back and gets more excited when he slides. Noise is minimal. the spinning makes no noise it is only when he gets to running full speed and hopping that it really makes any noise, a little metal sound, and it is no louder, maybe even quieter, then when he ran on the silent spinner and it made a plastic banging sound. You can also hear his little claws tapping but you have to be listening. The cage is right next to my husband and I's bed so the quite factor is a major plus. If you had anything else in the room making noise like a tv or music you won't even notice it really. If it's not where you plan on sleeping then noise is not even a factor but defiantly quite enough for a bedroom. The only thing i can say against it is two things. One it could be deeper. not by much maybe an inch or two. Pyg has no trouble using it now but if he gets as big as his parents, who were on the large side, he may get a bit too wide for it. Time will tell. Two that the bolts coming from the back to attach the pan stick out, less than a quarter inch mind you. I don't think it will be a problem but I could see where an overzealous chin might popcorn into one and scratch themselves. Doubt it would do any real harm even if they did though or I wouldn't have even put it in my cage. Over all great purchase and would recommend to anyone looking for a wheel.

Probably best value wheel for the price.
Bought this Wheel a year and a half ago. Our Chin has worn it out . The Bolts on the back have come through the metal. I may fix this yet i’ll Let you know or order a new one . I think for all the mileage out Chin has put on this it has been a great buy. Think of it as buying a pair of sneakers . They only last for so long . Same thing we run and walk miles on them, they just don’t last and we need to buy new ones . This wheel no doubt is noisy so if you have it in the same room as you don’t even think about it. It’s a great wheel if you don’t mind the noise and compare to the more expensive models I think this is the best one ! The only reason I give it 4-5 stars is because of the price and the noise. I highly recommend this wheel though. I just can’t see paying over $100 for a Chin wheel . If anyone had bought one of those please let me know how long those last . In closing, our Chin loves this and has no problems sleeping during the day. I wish I had the time to run all night and sleep all day ..lol. That wouldn’t pay the bills though .

Buy it! UPDATE: after 3 years of wear an tear.
If your looking for a good chin spin then this is what you should get hands down. Chins jump and the little plastic ones will just keep breaking or bending the cage if you bolt it to the side of the cage. This one is perfect for my two chins, they are reckless as ever and this spin has held up for 3+ years. If your hesitant about getting this, just do it, its an amazing spin, well made and easy for them to use. AND it's more quiet than anything I've found anywhere.UPDATE: AFTER many years of use, the spin has finally started to show it age. My chin is still using it in till it really breaks. After about a year it broke 2 bars on the cage so I had to kinda rig it to where it wouldn't break anymore than it already had. But buying this product is a must if you have chins, its held up this long!!UPDATE: finally totally broke... Time for a new one.

Great, except....
My little chin picked this up right away. It's fairly quiet, but....the one issue is one apparently lots of people are having: it's been a year and now I have several bars on the cage broken. It's heavy, and I'd like some help engineering some support because otherwise I will need a new cage. I think the bolt area really needs to either be spread out more, or somehow put onto an adjustable mount that can be adjusted to the cage. And the fix needs to be fairly simple..some of us don't engineer fixes very well!

beware for larger pets
Upon opening the box, I was very excited to try out the new chinchilla wheel. I was immediately impressed with the quality of the parts, the wheel looked carefully put together, and in a sturdy, well-done way. When I put the wheel in my cage, however, I realized there was actually little thought put into the design of this wheel in respect to the actual pet's comfort. I purchased this bigger wheel because I have a bigger chinchilla, and you'd think that with a bigger wheel, there'd be more width for the entire pet to fit on the wheel. This is not the case. The width of the wheel is barely over 3 inches wide, which is half of what the store bought wheel was! It makes no sense to me that a bigger wheel, obviously intended for bigger pets, would have such a small width. When she does attempt to run in it with only one side of her legs (very funny to watch) the very sharp screws that come through the metal wheel part (attaching the bearing) are situated just so they hit her in the back, which she notices and now doesn't like to go near this toy. Unfortunately, despite the good craftsmanship, this product it is very poorly thought out in practice and isn't the choice for you if you were upgrading from what you can find in the pet stores.
