Working with Algebra Tiles, Grades 6-12

A great co-tool to have along with algebra tiles
Great explanations and lots of wonderful step-by-step lesson plans that help young mathematicians discover algebra visually using the algebra tile manipulatives! It doesn't come with the algebra tiles, but you can get an individual student set (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000F8R5NC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) separately or make your own from card stock. This book starts from the simple beginning with an introduction of the tiles, and works from integer operations through trinomial equation solving. It is set up as a teacher's guide for lesson planning with algebra tiles and works great a supplemental in the home. I didn't understand how to help my student with algebra tiles until getting this book and, honestly, it has really helped me understand algebra better, too! I personally found the visual method of teaching algebra to be very effective and memorable. I hope you have the same positive experience, too!

Good book but only for one-variable problems (quite limiting!)
This is a good book if all you want to do is work with one variable at a time, using the very simple (and limiting) sets of blue-green-yellow-red algebra tiles. However, I recommend the Algebraic Bosse Tiles -- particularly the X, Y, Z set (340 pieces) and the accompanying Bosse Activity Books I and II from Nasco. This big Bosse Tiles set is an excellent math manipulative that will help you teach countless math topics from kindergarten through algebra. Altogether it's a much better value, in my opinion. (If you want details, you can read my Amazon review of the XYZ set.)

Love Algebra tiles
This book makes teaching with Algebra Tiles much easier. My high school students have special needs and must pass an Algebra exam to earn a diploma. I would rather they be tested on math they will actually use but Algebra Tiles make teaching and learning Algebra much less abstract. I am not a math teacher so need all the help I can get to teach Algebra. This is one of the best books I have.

Meh...
It's ok. Not really what I was looking for, but I'm making lemonade. The graphics and worksheet layout are not student friendly. The math content is good though but harder to sift through with this yucky layout. I'll keep looking for a better book in the meantime.

Great Book!
I homeschool my 7th grade son and he has Aspergers and auditory processing disorder. This book has been amazing! We purchased the tiles separately and use them with almost every lesson. My son grasps the concepts better with the manipulatives.

Pretty good book on the manipulatives
This book was very well put together for a unit involving the manipulatives. You can use many of the pages for handable worksheets for the students and it is presented in such a way that a teacher can use it easily.

Great!
This is an excellent book. I plan to use it next year with my 9th grade students. I have been reviewing it during the summer to get ready for my Alg class next year. It has easy to follow directions and is very student friendly. The CD is interactive and will work well with my new "Smart" board. I have often bought materials for my classroom and then was disappointed. That was not the case this time. A great value!

Now I get it!
Definitely a great way to get Algebra straight in your mind - by working with your hands! Works just as well for adults as it does high school students.
