Is this just one huge roll of shrink film, or is it 10 separate pieces?

It is two semi-huge films, 62 inches by 210 inches each

Can this be removed and re-used another winter? Sorry if this is answered but didn't get through all 154 reviews. Is it unsightly? Thanks.

Yes, it can be re-used, even if you use a hair dryer to shrink it. I remove it carefully, fold each piece up, and label it with a sticky note telling which room/window you removed it from. This makes it MUCH easier the next year to reappy. You will need to purchase more double-sided tape to reapply the following year, however, I've found that if you search around on amazon, it is sometimes much cheaper to buy a full window kit, rather than the individual, small 24' rolls of replacement tape.

How does this work? Does it cover the entire window so that you can't open the window?

Yes, it covers the entire window and you wouldn't be able to open it without removing the plastic film. The idea is that, over the winter months, the plastic is taped to the window sill so it sits about 1-2 inches away from the the glass. This traps a pocket of air between the cold winter glass and your warm house in order to have extra insulation. It worked very well to address drafty window. If you're concerned about opening the window at some point in the winter, then consider getting a heavy set curtains to insulate the window. In the past I've just gone out and bought sheets of felt from a fabric store and sewn the top so it could be hung from a curtain rod. Then install the felt curtain under your normal curtain for a warm house.

Can I put this on windows that are somewhat smaller than 3'x5'? Can these films be cut/shrunk to fit?

Yes, you can cut these films. When you put them on, you can trim them again, if they turn out to be too big. After that, just use a hairdryer to smoothen them (keep a hairdryer not less than 2" from the film, otherwise it will melt).
