Q: I can't get the shavings compartment off

Hold the sharpening unit in your right hand (hand over the top with your thumb gripping the front, your other four fingers gripping the back), and place your left thumb on the top of the shavings holder, your left 3rd finger on the bottom of the shavings holder. Gently worry the two halves apart. It should come apart fairly easily. It is constructed so that you don't end up with all the shavings in your lap, either. Hope this helps.

Q: If pencil lead gets stuck inside, is it easy to get out?

We had a charcoal pencil tip break off and get stuck - a very thin (1.4mm) screwdriver very gently dislodged the charcoal piece (of course with the power source removed before attempting this).

Q: Does It work with thick pencils?

I would say no bc the entry point for the pencil is made too small. It is for the regular size pencil so NO. But it has been great so far. I've had it a week and I go through pencils. It's fast and durable (so far... I hope)邏

Q: Does the sharpener stop automatically when pencil is sharpened?

It stops when you remove the pencil....You have to press the pencil hard in the hold..for a few seconds....and it is sharpened perfectlyIf you do not hold the pencil right, it will not sharpen properly.. Just learn the trick and it works well.
